Strickland Sr. Paul Edward Strickland Sr., 74, of Danielsville, died Saturday, May 1, 2004. A native of Madison County, Mr. Strickland was the son of the late Jasper B. and Myrtie Bridges Strickland. He worked for City Glass as a glass glazer and was of the Baptist denomination. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maude G. Carter Strickland, and a daughter, Dorothy Strickland. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Albert Vaughn officiating. Burial was in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Scarborough was born June 21, 1944, a son of the late Jewell Benjamin and Vivian Lee Woods Scarborough. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 13, in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Bowen officiating. Survivors include four brothers, Ernest Scarborough and Charles Scarborough, both of Comer, Kenneth Scarborough, Daniels-ville, and Johnny Scarborough, Bowman; two sisters, Vivian Gueth, Comer, and Martha Adams, Danielsville; and several nieces and nephews. Born in Forsyth County, Mrs. Segars had lived in Hartwell for many years before moving to Gainesville 10 years ago. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Jenny Alexander Smith. Mrs. Segars was a homemaker and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. She was a very faithful and devoted pastor’s wife, it was stated. Mrs. Segars was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Garnett Youngblood, a daughter, Imogene Hanley, a son-in-law, Omer Cape, and a grandson, Terry Beck. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, at Bethany Baptist Church with the Revs. Scott Culpepper, Lamar Purcell and Larry Youngblood officiating. Mr. Fitzpatrick was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Minish Fitzpatrick, three brothers, J.D., Ellis and Obediah Fitzpatrick, and a sister, Mary Dobbs. He retired from Jefferson Mills and was a charter member and deacon of Sonlight Baptist Church. Mr. Sorrow was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Toney and Lois Smallwood. Mrs. McGarity was born in Hart County on January 21, 1925, a daughter of the late Lemuel Moses and Blanche Brown Ridgway. She was a homemaker and a life-long member of Royston First United Methodist Church. She graduated from Royston High School and attended Toccoa Falls Institute and Monroe A&M. She was active in the local Boy Scouts and was a member of the Eastern Star. She had been an employee of Reeder Tucker, Tri County Bank and Royston Elementary School. Mrs. McGarity was preceded in death by her husband, John Ralph McGarity Sr., and a sister, Eugenia Ridgway Maddox. He was owner of Crump’s Body Shop and C&C Fiberglass and was of the Baptist denomination. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. Mrs. Owens was born July 31, 1920, in Oconee County, a daughter of the late Howell P. White and Lena Hartley White. Her adult life was spent in Athens where she retired from the J.C. Penney Company. “Her loving ways were known to family and friends alike,” stated family members. “She embraced life and all its gifts with the heart of a child. Her generosity and spirit will live on through those whose lives she touched.” Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by a son, Steve Turnell, a brother, C.T. White, and a sister, Runa Richardson.
