Strickland Jim D. Strickland, 75, of Comer, died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at his residence. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, at Vineyards Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Larry Green and Ronnie Moon officiating. Burial was in the Colbert Cemetery. Mr. Strickland is survived by his wife, Dorothy Strickland; son, Ricky Strickland; and daughters, Patricia Ann Fricks and Robbie Sue Saxon. Faulkner, 83, of Commerce, died Monday, April 5, 2004. Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville. Graveside services followed at 2 p.m. in New Bethel Cemetery, Rome. Mrs. Faulkner is survived by a daughter, Vanessa Woolard; and two sons, David Faulkner and Jimmy Faulkner. Phillips Sr., 89, of the Redwine Community, Canon, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston. Mr. Phillips was born in Hart County on May 24, 1914, son of the late James Rush Phillips Sr. and the late Flora Adams Phillips. He was a retired welder, having worked at Webco in Toccoa, and was an active member of Redwine United Methodist Church. Mr. Phillips was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, having served in World War II in Okanawa. He raised and sold all types of dogs. Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, the Rev. Allen and Orville Phillips, and two sisters, Catherine Phillips Norris and Euriel Phillips. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 9, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Claude Herbert officiating. Burial was in the Redwine United Methodist Church Cemetery. Chad Phillips, Adam Brown, Eli Brown, Scott Tomlin, Robby Oliver, Jason Green, Johnny Paul and Lee Leverette served as pallbearers. Mr. Peck was born in Barrow County on December 27, 1956, a son of the late William Albert Peck and the late Amanda Jane Stowe Peck. He was a 1975 graduate of Jefferson High School and worked for the Jefferson City School System for 22 years. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Jefferson. Phillips, 70, husband of Martha Jane Brewster Phillips, of Starr, S.C., died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at his residence. Born in Hart County, Mr. Phillips was the son of the late Lam and Josie Phillips, Royston. He retired from Clark Schwebel Fiber Glass and was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple. He was also a member of the Starr Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to his parents, Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willie and Lilly Kape Phillips and Joe and Bessie Childs Fowler, and a brother-in-law, John M. Sexton. Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, at Gethsemane Baptist Temple with the Rev. Sam Duncan officiating. Burial was in South Lawn Memorial Gardens. Ray Clyde Robert Ray, 88, of Athens, died Saturday, April 10, 2004. Born in Jackson County, Mr. Ray was the son of the late S.G. Ray and Lillie Mae Gailey Ray, Athens. He moved to Athens in 1918 and was a graduate of Athens High School. Mr. Ray was a postal employee from 1936 to 1964 at the Athens Post Office in the positions of clerk, carrier and supervisor. He entered the University of Georgia in the night school in 1956 while working full-time at the post office. He graduated with honors (B.B.A. Degree) in 1962 and later attended Graduate School in Business and History. He received an appointment as a Federal Agent with the National Labor Relations Board in 1964 from which he retired in 1972. He served one term as a Clarke County Commissioner from 1975 to 1979. Mr. Ray was a World War II veteran who stayed in the Army Reserve after World War II ended, and retired from the Army Reserve in 1975. He wrote a weekly newspaper column for 13 years — one year for the Oglethorpe Echo, one year for the Athens Observer and 11 years for The Athens Daily News, and was an active member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church since 1932. Mr. Ray married Bronzie Lee Harris in 1936. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Robert Ray, a grandson, Thomas Stephen Wray, and two brothers, Bill and Hoyt Ray. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, at Prince Avenue Baptist Church with the Revs. Bill Ricketts and Randy Smith officiating and Sam Prince giving the eulogy. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Richard Williamson, Steve Ray, Robert Prince, John Prince, Bobby Ray and Dr. Howard T. Abney served as pallbearers. In addition to his wife, Mr. Ray is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Jean Wray, Athens; granddaughter and husband, Joni and Travis Thomason, Colbert; sister and brother-in-law, Nell and Bob Prince, Augusta; sister, Betty Williamson, Monroe; sister-in- law, Jerry Ray, Athens; and several nieces and nephews. Lord Mrs. Mary Ann Whitehead Lord, 64, of Nicholson, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Athens Regional Medical Center. A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Lord was born November 15, 1939, to the late Ernest and Thelma Smith Whitehead. She was the wife of the late Ronald Lord. Mrs. Lord was employed by East Jackson Middle School in the lunchroom and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 9, at New Hope Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Stowers, Dennis Kesler, Marty Smith and Melvin Green officiating. Burial was in Howington Cemetery, Nicholson. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and David Ervin and Denise and Danny Waters, all of Commerce; son, Jeff Lord, Nicholson; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Mary Beth Ervin.
