Segers, 84, of Athens, formerly of Danielsville, died Sunday, January 11, 2004. Born March 26, 1919, in Banks County, Mr. Segers was the son of the late Thera W. and Florence Hutcherson Segers. He retired from Williams Company, formerly Transcontinental Gas Pipeline, with 30 years of service, and was an active member of Danielsville United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Mr. Segers was a United States Army veteran of World War II with the European Campaign, Company M, 319th Infantry Regiment. For his wounds received during enemy action, he was awarded the Purple Heart. For his courage in the face of the enemy and the exemplary leadership he displayed, he was awarded the Bronze Star. Mr. Segers was preceded in death by a grandson, Nathan Osgood, and three brothers, Ruel Segers, Harvey S. Segars and James R. Segers. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Oliver O’Neal, a brother, William “Billy” Poole, a sister-in-law, Muriel Poole, and a brother-in-law, LaMoyne A. “Lee” Brunson. Mrs. O’Neal was primarily employed by the Clarke County School District in the lunchroom programs at both Oglethorpe Elementary and Cedar Shoals High School, and had earlier been employed with Southern Bell Telephone. Boswell Causey James Boswell, 88, of Hull, died Tuesday, January 6, 2004. A native and lifelong resident of Madison County, Mr. Boswell was the son of the late Roy Jeffrey and Dora Barrett Boswell. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Philippines and Japan from 1944 to 1946. He was a 55-year member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Boswell operated Boswell’s Service Center for 18 years and was a funeral director with Bridges Funeral Home for 15 years, and with Lord & Stephens Funeral Home for 15 years, where he was still actively employed. McCurley, 82, died Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital. A native of Colbert, Col. McCurley had made Augusta his home since 1974. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and was a member of the Retired Officers Association, Augusta Chapter. Col. McCurley was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam, having served in the United States Army. He was one of the last members of the U.S. Cavalry who rode horses. Following retirement, he served for many years in Augusta as a volunteer with the Masters Tournament. He was a member of Bicentennial Chapel on Fort Gordon. Col. McCurley was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Ann McCurley.
