Mr. Clark was born in Clarke County, Georgia, the son of the late Marshall Clark and Beulah Martin Clark of Hoschton. Mr. Clark was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, was self-employed in the trucking business and of the Baptist faith. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a son, Nathan Clark, San Antonio, Tex.; two sisters, Pam Duck, Braselton, and Sandra Braselton, Lawrenceville; two brothers, Jimmy Clark, Oakwood, and Billy Clark, Hoschton; and one grandchild. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 13, 2004, from the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Revs. Marshall Dale and Jerry Braselton officiating. Burial was in Barrow Memorial Gardens, Winder. Jack Lindsay, 74, Jefferson, died Saturday, July 10, 2004, of an extended illness. Reverend Lindsay was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lorrick. He was born in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of the late John Arthur and Ruth Margaret Maurin Lindsay. The Reverend Lindsay was a Southern Baptist minister and was the director of the Potter’s House from 1975- 1995 and was pastor of Salem Baptist Church, interim pastor for Bethany Baptist, Lexington Baptist, Attica Baptist, Edwards Chapel Baptist and also pastored Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he was a member. Survivors include Rebecca Jean West Lindsay; three daughters, Rachel Lindsay, Charleston, S.C., Gretchen Lindsay, Overland Park, Kan., Cynthia Leftwich, Kansas City, Mo; four sons, John Lindsay, Jefferson, Philip Leftwich, Sanford, Fla., Adam Lindsay, Houston, Tex., and William Leftwich, Social Circle; one sister, Jean West, Burbank, Ca.; and 14 grandchildren. Joe Parham Joe Billings Parham Sr., 74, Royston, died Friday, July 9, 2004, at Hart County Hospital in Hartwell. He was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Parham. Mr. Parham was born in Clarke County, July 3, 1930, the son of the late Hester Glen and Elizabeth Ingram Parham. He was a retired personnel manager for Johnson & Johnson in Royston and was a United States Navy veteran, having served during World War II. Mr. Parham was a member of the Mill Shoal Baptist Church, Royston Masonic Lodge, Royston-Franklin Springs Rotary Club and was past president of the Royston-Franklin Springs Lions Club. Survivors include his wife, Frances Berryman Parham, Royston; sons, Billy Parham, Royston, Phil Parham, Hartwell, and Chris Parham, Royston; a brother, Jimmy Parham, Elberton; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brown worked as a seamstress in the textile industry and was of the Holiness Faith. Her husband, Gaines Omer Brown, preceded Mrs. Brown in death. Mr. Smith was born in Franklin County, August 20, 1959, the son of the late Grady and Irene Dudley Smith. Mr. Smith worked as a small engine mechanic and attended Corinth Holiness Church. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Ann Maxwell. A native of Clarke County, she was a homemaker and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Theodore A. and Flotilla Melton Noell. Mrs. Sweatman was preceded in death by her husband, George Sweatman. Survivors include three brothers, Donald Noell, Athens, Bobby Noell, Hull, and James Noell, Nicholson; three sisters, Delores Colley, Nicholson, Carolyn Brooks, Jefferson, and Patsy Dalton, Nicholson; and a special friend, Hank Cronic, Nicholson. Virginia Ray Weaver Mrs. Virginia Ray Weaverm 80, died July 4, 2004 at Willow Brooke Court, Lanier Village Estates, Gainesville. Born in Royston, January 19, 1924, she was the daughter of Ernest Franklin Ray and Cleo Meadow Ray. Her early school years were spent in Carnesville. Her father died when Virginia was ten and she and her mother moved to Westminster, S.C. where she graduated from high school, then went on to Brenau University at Gainesville, earning her B.A. degree in 1945. She worked in Atlanta as Director of Children’s Work for The North Georgia Conference of The Methodist Church. Around 1951, she joined the Atlanta public school system and in 1956, she married Luther Hartsfield Weaver. In 1964, the Weavers adopted a six-week old baby daughter. In 2001, Mrs. Weaver returned to Gainesville. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Gina Weaver Attas, Hollywood, Fla., Richard Attas of Atlanta, and several cousins. Graveside service for burial of cremains were Tuesday, July 13, at Rose Hill Cemetary, Royston, followed by a memorial service in the auditorium of Lanier Village Estates in Gainesville. Reather Freeman Reather Thomason Freeman, 88, China Grove, N.C., died Friday, July 9, 2004, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville, N.C. Born November 15, 1915, in Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Jake Thomason and Mattie Fitzpatrick Thomason. She was a graduate of Ila High School and was a lifetime member of Ila Baptist Church in Ila. She retired in 1981 from the pillowcase department of Cannon Mills Plant One. Survivors include a duaghter, Joyce Fish and her husband, Ralph, Kannapolis, N.C.; three sons, Tommy Gene Freeman, Landis, Jerry Dean Freeman and his wife, Rickie, Mooresville, N.C., and Butch B. Mrs. Phinney served for 13 years as a certified nurse’s assistant and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nelvic Sue Brumblow. Mrs. Jackson was a retired school teacher who taught for 31 years. She was a 1942 graduate of the University of Georgia, a member of the National Retired Teachers Association and a member of Alpha Gamma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma since 1971.
