Evelyn Adams Evelyn Fortson Adams, 79, of Danielsville, died Thursday, September 9, 2004. A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Clara Beatonbo Fortson. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bluestone Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Adams and a son, Ronnie Michael Adams. Survivors include one son, Charles D. Adams, Danielsville, four daughters, Dell Willoughby and Lynda Brooks, both of Athens, Teresa Russell, Comer, and Robin Adams, Hartwell; one brother, John Fortson, Danielsville; three sisters, Rebecca Carson, Hardford, N.C., Rachel Haley, Danielsville, and Barbara Lloyd, Athens; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Isaiah ‘Butch’ Sims, Jr. Isaiah “Butch” Sims, Jr., 58, of Hull, died Thursday, September 9, 2004. Survivors include four sons, Freddie Sims, Lansing, Mich., Marcus and Quantize Sims, both of Athens, and Montage Sims, Monroe; two daughters, Joell Gilhma, Bowie, Md., and Raven Sims, Athens; and three sisters, Betty Sims Clarke, Hull, Brenda Sims Scott, Union City, and Sandra Sims Washington, Athens. Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 15, at Greater Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Burial was in East Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Jewell Wilson Jewell Mae Corn Wilson, 87, of Martin, died Friday, September 10, 2004, at Toccoa Nursing Center. She was born April 14, 1917, in the Red Hill Community and was the daughter of the late Fletcher and Pearl Corn. She was a homemaker and was retired from Carwood Manufacturing Company after 35 years. Mrs. Wilson was a member of Pleasent Hill Baptist Church, the TEL Sunday School Class, the WMU and she taught Nursery Sunday school for more than 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoke Alvin Wilson, a son, Alvin Wilson, a daughter, Guynelle Wilson, and a brother, Merrell Corn. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce W. and Fred Johnson, Hull; brother, Kermit L. Corn, Royston; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Jennifer J. and Vince Davitt; grandson and wife, Jason L. and Cassandra Johnson; great-grandchildren Kelsey Faye Johnson, Grant Garrett, and Nathan Davitt. Westbrook, 55, of Ila, died Saturday, September 11, 2004, at Emmanuel Medical Center in Swainsboro. He was born in Clark County October 21, 1948, and was the son of the late Loyd and Ruth Shankle Westbrook. He was a Methodist. Survivors include a brother, Lloyd Westbrook, Commerce. Sara Jo Floyd Sara Jo Stone Floyd, 75, of Canon, died Thursday, September 9, 2004, at the Hart County Hospital in Hartwell. She was born in Anderson, S.C., June 20, 1929, the daughter of the late E.N. and Pearl McCollum Stone. She was retired from the textile industry, where she was admired and respected by her co-workers, according to family members. Mrs. Floyd was a member of the Redwine United Methodist Church. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, and a dear friend forever, according to her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy James Floyd and one brother, Junior Stone. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Charles (Junior) Hendrix, Canon; grandchildren, Burney Hendrix, and Melody and Harold Roach, all of Canon; great-grandchildren, Whitney and Bethany Roach, both of Canon; and a sister, Christine Randall, Canon. Joseph Butler Joseph Riley Butler, 68, of Hull, died Tuesday, September 14, 2004. A native of South Carolina, he was the son of the late William and Mary Elsie Kay Butler. He previously worked for the Davis House in Athens, also in South Carolina, Ohio and Pennsylvania and was a member of the Lauren Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Buster Shelton and a brother, Thomas F. Butler. Survivors include three sons, Larry Joe and Donald G. Butler, and Joseph R. Butler, Jr., all of Winterville; two daughters, Mary Kay Wood, Beechgrove, Tenn., and Patty Ogle, Comer; three brothers, William E. Butler, Pineville, N.C., James P. Butler, Colorado Springs, Colo., and J. Harold Butler, Magnolia, Tex.; three sisters, Polly Jenkins, Greer, S.C., Rachel Jones, Mauldin, S.C., and Jan McClain, Ila; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 10 nephews; and 13 nieces. Bobby Hancock Bobby Hancock, 71, of Jefferson, died Saturday, September 11, 2004, in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, while attending a Military Reunion. He was born in Banks County, the son of the late Burrell Austell and Gladys Thomas Hancock. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church where he had formerly served as a Deacon, was the owner of Bobby Hancock Trucking since 1978, and was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Pauline Stevens Hancock, Jefferson; a daughter, Marie Sagon, Jefferson; sister, Betty Ingram, Southern Pines, N.C.; and one grandchild. She was a Special Education teacher at the Royston Elementary School and was a member of the Royston First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the hand bell choir. Miss Anthony was a member of PAGE (Professional Association of Georgia Educators) and was President of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. Survivors, in addition to her parents, include a brother, Matt Anthony, Nicholson; sister, Lisa Simmering, Conyers; and several aunts and uncles. She was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., February 25, 1910, and was the daughter of the late John and Kate Scott Bowen. She was formerly the owner and operator of the Royston Beauty Shop and was a member of the Royston First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Love Circle. Mrs. Wansley was a member of the 50 Plus Club and the Happy Traveler’s Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben Tabor Wansley, a daughter, Rosalie Casey, and sisters Harriett Ballard, Jessie Graham, and Kate Gentry. Survivors include a daughter, Elaine LaFayette, Athens; one sister, Willie Bottoms, Griffin; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 16, at 2:00 p.m., at the Royston First United Methodist Church with Dr. Brian Clark and the Rev. Larry Kaiser officiating.
