Peggy Landress Reba Evelyn “Peggy” Dean Landress, 75, of Oxford, died Sunday, October 17, 2004, at Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta. Born in Madison County February 14, 1929, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley and Vesta Coile Dean. Mrs. Landress was the retired owner of a dry cleaning business and attended West Walton Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Landress. Survivors include sons, Gene Aaron and Randy Landress, both of Covington, Terry Patillo, Monticello, Kerry Landress and Stanley Oxendine, both of Walnut Grove, and Jimmy Pattillo, Marietta; daughters, Glenda Gardner, Nashville, Tenn., and Debbie Deaton, Walnut Grove; brother, John (Pete) Dean, Hull; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 20, in the Meadow Baptist Church with the Revs. Don Curran and Martin T. Coile officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Steve McKie Robert Steve McKie, 52, of Nicholson, died Saturday, October 16, 2004, in the Athens Regional Medical Center, Athens. Born in Jackson County, July 29, 1952, he was the son of the late J.R. and Myrtle Smallwood McKie. Mr. McKie was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil and Johnny McKie. Survivors include brothers and sister-in-law, James McKie, Nicholson, Jim and Thane McKie, Lexington, and Tommy McKie, Commerce; sisters and brother-in-law, Wanda and Kelvin Compton, Comer, Ann McKie and Mary McKie, both of Nicholson; 16 nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Doug Luthi. Linda Cox Linda Gail Cox, 57, of Danielsville, died Friday, October 15, 2004. A native of Clarke County, she was the daughter of Oliver and Nancy Fortson Shelnut and was a Baptist. Survivors include a son, Ted Shelnut; daughter, Jane Croy; five step-children, Larry Cox, Benny Cox, and David Cox, Lois Bales and Shirley Moon; and four grandchildren; all of Madison County. Ann Strickland Ann Elizabeth Dixon Strickland, 56, of Nicholson, died Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at the residence of her sister. Born in McCrae, she was the daughter of the late Grady and Pat Dixon. She worked as a seamstress for Superior Pants for 25 years and was a member of Bible Baptist Church. Mrs. Strickland was a devout Christian and professed her love of Christ, according to her loved ones. She said, “thou God slay me I still love him.” She was preceded in death by her son, Russell Strickland. Survivors include her husband, Joe Strickland, Hull; sisters, Carolyn Strickland, Mary Sorrow, Barbara Streetman, all of Nicholson, Sherry Bram-lett, Farmington; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 21, at 3 p.m. at Lord & Stephens, EAST, with the Revs. Robert Garrett and Robert Whatley officiating. Alan Colvin Alan Duncan Colvin, 16, of Nicholson, died Monday, October 18, 2004, in Jack-son County. He was born in Bulloch County on November 10, 1987, the son of Yancy Alan Colvin, Macon, and Tammy Kay Strobel Colvin, Nicholson. Mr. Colvin was a student at Jackson County Comprehen-sive High School. He played the saxophone in the band, was a member of Conflict Management, and the President of the Y-Club. He was an employee of Mikasa in Commerce, and a member of Grove Level Baptist Church. Survivors in addition to his parents include a sister, Cindy Adamson, Toccoa; paternal grandmother, Charlene Colvin, Metter; six aunts, Cindy Thomas, Norwood, Ohio, Darlene Black, Savannah, Vicki Worley, Knoxville, Tenn., Tina Hook, Statesboro, Marty Colvin, Baxley, and Allison Nelson, Homerville. Mrs. Janes was a member of Dallas Second Baptist Church and was previously employed by the Paulding County School System. She was preceded in death by a brother, Elvis B. Hill. Norton, 82, of Royston, died Wednesday, October 13, 2004, at Brown Memorial Convalescent Center, Royston. He was born in Stephens County, January 29, 1922, the son of the late Jim and Aner Bond Norton. He was retired from Harion Lumber Company, was a member of the Rice Creek Baptist Church, and was a member of the Woodmen of the World. Mr. Norton was a veteran having served in the United States Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Roling Norton, and a brother, William E. (Bill) Norton. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Alice Fay and Jimmy Beard, Canon; grandchildren, Johnny and Susie Beard, Royston, and Mary Donna and Todd Thomas, Canon; and a sister, Eunice Dove, Royston. Survivors include her husband, Gerald Maxwell, Commerce; her mother, Louise Noll Horne, Rossville; daughters, Sandy Jones, Statesboro, and Beth Kitzmiller, Ocala, Fla.; brother, Tony Bennett, Ringgold. A lifelong resident of Athens, he was the son of the late Titus and Rosa Lee Walls Anderson. Prior to his death, he was owner and operator of Allen’s Garage for thirty-nine years and was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife of nearly forty-seven years, Doris Allen; son and daughter-in-law, Billy Ray and Bonnie Faye Allen, Colbert; daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Frank Tyner, Danielsville, Wanda and Charles Williamson, Jefferson, Brenda and Pat Palmer, Winterville, Cindy and Jimmy Walker, Crawford, and Gwen and Bob Milligan, Rome; six grandsons, four granddaughters, six step-grandchildren, six great grandchildren, five step-great grandchildren; sister and brother-in- law, Shirley and Curtis Dills, Jefferson; one half-brother and sister- in-law, Aubry and Kathy Allen, Watkinsville; three half sisters and brother-in-law, Floretta and Charles Thomas, Charlotte, N.C., Paulette Moon, Colbert, and Lorraine Allen, Athens; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Melissa and Kenny Handley, Athens. Annie Cochran Annie Mae Cochran, 97, Madison County, died Friday, October 15, 2004. She was born June 29, 1907, to the late Prince and Flora Thompson. She lived in Commerce for more than 70 years and was always a strong participant and leader in civic and church activities, seeking to aid growth of the community and betterment of its people. She retired from work at the age of 90 from the Commerce Library, but continued an active life in the church and community for several more years. Mrs. Cochran received numerous awards and honors from the city, county, and state for her lifetime of dedicated service for advancement of Commerce and the regional community. On three occasions she was recognized as Citizen of the Year by the PTA, city and church for her outstanding service. According to family members, she was an inspiration for everyone who knew her, a friend to all whom needed a helping hand, and even a counselor when necessary, with untiring work ethics in completing worthwhile goals. Survivors include sons, Robert Cochran, Dayton, Ohio, Harold Cochran, Commerce, and James Cochran, Moreno Valley, Calif.; daughter, Mary Colbert, Albany; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 10 nieces and nephews. She leaves numerous friends she loved as family, according to family members. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 21, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Church, Commerce.
