Mrs. Sorrells was born in Madison County on April 10, 1916. She was a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Octavia Patterson Osley. Mrs. Sorrells was a homemaker and attended Colbert Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Hazel Coker, four brothers, Roy, Grover, Bishop and Felton Osley, and a sister, Vonnie Sue Dove. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating. Burial was in the Mill Shoal Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include four daughters, Evelyn Hall, Loganville, Shirley Short, Maysville, Joyce Eidson, Snellville, and Brenda Wright, Lawrenceville; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Steele George Richard Steele, 65, of Comer, died Sunday, January 18, 2004. Mr. Steele was a son of the late Jim “J.C.” and Janie Everett Bridges Steele. He was preceded in death by a brother, Armell Steele. Mr. Steele was retired from the Comer Post Office as a route carrier. A celebration of his life was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Glen Guest officiating. Burial was in the Bridges Family Cemetery. Ray Sanders, Glenn Wood, Mike Graham, Robert Bridges, Butch Russell and Myron Hedgelon served as pallbearers. Survivors include brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Linda Steele, Danielsville; sister-in-law, JoNell Steele, Comer; nieces, Vivian Steele, Comer, and Christy Steele, Danielsville; nephew, Michael Steele, Danielsville; and an uncle and aunt, A.C. and Madeline Watson. Mr. Minish was born in Jackson County on December 25, 1928. He was the son of the late Thomas Aubrey and Lois Arthur Minish. Mr. Minish was a retired electrician and was a member of New Hope Worship Center. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, in the New Hope Worship Center Cemetery with the Rev. Dennis Kesler officiating. Mr. Minish is survived by his wife, Annie Sue Phillips Minish, Bowman; two sons, Doug Minish, Royston, and William Minish, Danielsville; two daughters, Barbara Dudley, Danielsville, and Kathy Bailey, Hull; one sister, Sara McClure, Commerce; four grandchildren and one step-granddaughter. Fowler, of Wichita, Kan., died Monday, January 19, 2004, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born January 20, 1925, in Danielsville, Mr. Fowler spent most of his working life in Athens. He began his postal career in the Railway Mail Service and 32 years later retired as the Decatur Postmaster. He was elected to the Atlanta Postal Credit Union Board, Board Chair for several years. Mr. Fowler was a World War II veteran and carried shrapnel in his arm until his death. He received the American Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with a bronze star, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge. Mr. Fowler belonged to community organizations, including the Athens Elks Club, the Decatur Civitan Club and the Hope Lion’s Club, and was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. “He was an avid reader and golfer,” said family members. “Post retirement travel fulfilled his love of adventure, beauty and country.” A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24, at the Evangelical Methodist Church, Danielsville, with the Rev. Tim Peek officiating. Mr. Fowler is survived by his wife, Ann; sons and daughters -in-law, George Richard and Vika Fowler, Powder Springs, James Randall and Arenise Fowler, Apopka, Fla., and Stephen Peter and Nancy Fowler, Winter Haven, Fla.; 10 grandsons, four granddaughters and one great-grandson; sister, Ann McComb, Knoxville, Tenn.; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and A.T. Russell, Buckhead; brothers and sisters-in-law, Branson and Norma Fowler, Watkinsville, and Gary and Frances Fowler, Danielsville; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Mae Fowler, and a brother, John Willis Fowler. Memorials may be made to Wichita Regional Alzheimer’s Association or Total Hospice. Vollrath Mrs. Worther Mae Clark Vollrath, 97, of BJC Nursing Home, Commerce, formerly of Royston, died Monday, January 19, 2004. Mrs. Vollrath was born in Hart County on March 22, 1906. She was the daughter of the late William Francis and Lora Ann Ray Clark. Mrs. Vollrath was a homemaker and a member of Salem Pentecostal Holiness Fire Baptized Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Vollrath Sr. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Glenn Vollrath and James Meadows officiating. Burial was in the Salem Pentecostal Holiness Fire Baptized Church Cemetery. Survivors include four sons, Howard Vollrath Jr., Ellenwood, Paul Vollrath and James Vollrath, both of Anderson, S.C., and Edgar Vollrath, Commerce; four daughters, Ruth Whitlow, Winterville, Mattie Lou Stovall, Hartwell, Sarah Beauchamp, Dacula, and Patricia Vollrath, Lavonia; 30 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren. Kutasi Mrs. Gloria Anna Kutasi, 92, of Commerce, died Wednesday, January 14, 2004, at Hill Haven Nursing Home. Mrs. Kutasi is survived by a daughter, Norma Zellner, Colbert; and a son, Ronald Kutasi, Seattle, Wash. Services will be held at a later date. Bennett Sr. Charles Curtis Bennett Sr. died Monday, January 19, 2004. Mr. Bennett was born in Jefferson in August of 1915, to Charlie Lester and Evelyn Nix Bennett. He married Margaret Adeline Hanson in 1939 in Madison. The couple recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Together they raised their six children in Ila, and later in Athens, where they resided for 44 years. “Mr. Bennett left his family with a rich and Godly heritage,” it was stated. Mr. Bennett opened his business, Athens Building and Well Supply (later named Athens Plumbing and Well Supply) on February 24, 1947. His three sons worked with him in the business until he retired in 1981. He loved and served in his church, Prince Avenue Baptist Church, on the Board of Deacons for many years (Chairman). He also served as a Sunday School teacher and Superintendent and as a driver for international students, and was a supporter of WMSL Radio Station and other ministries. Mr. Bennett was treasurer of Bridgeway Home for Boys, was a member of the Gideon Association, and in his later years, was a volunteer fund raiser for Bridgeway and WMSL. Mr. Bennett’s oldest son, Buddy, preceded him in death in 1980. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 22, at Prince Avenue Baptist Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Bennett’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present deacons of Prince Avenue Baptist Church and members of the Word Bearer’s Sunday School Class. Mr. Bennett is survived by his wife; son, Don Bennett, Athens; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Susan Bennett, Athens; daughter, Lyn Bennett, Atlanta; daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Lynn Bahnsen, Athens, and Angie and Tommy Prince, Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Curt Bennett (Michelle), April B. Porter (Steve), Jason Bennett, Tap Bennett (Dee Dee), Billy Bennett, Meg B. Titshaw (Keith), Ben Bahnsen (Betsy), Brett Bahnsen, Rollin Prince, Nathan Prince and Merry Katherine Prince; and great-grandchildren, Connor Bennett, Victoria, Jaclyn, Caroline and Meredith Bennett, Taylor and Lauren Titshaw and Magill Bahnsen.
