Born May 5, 1944, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Hamp Wehunt, Sr. and Ruth Goodwin Wehunt. He was a truck driver with Floyd Hughes Hauling, was a resident of Winder for seven years, and was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Joyce Hughes Wehunt of the home; mother, Ruth Goodwin Wehunt, Lavonia; four sons, Christopher H. Wehunt, Maysville, Donald G. Wehunt, Carnesville, Thomas S. Wehunt, Hoschton, and David L. Herschel Dyer Herschel Joe Dyer, 67, of Danielsville, died Saturday, September 18, 2004, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce. He was born in White County, April 25, 1937, the son of the late Joe and Clifford Thomas Dyer. He was a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle. Survivors include sons and daughers-in-law, Daniel and Kimberly Dyer, Danielsville, Sam and Brenda Dyer, Hull, David and Pam Dyer, Ila, and Paul Dyer, Danielsville; two brothers, Hubert Dyer, Lula, and Dewey Dyer, South Carolina; and two sisters, Lucille Hooper, Nicholson, and Ethlene Meadows, Commerce. He was born January 6, 1914, in Comer, and was the son of the late Marcus and Myrtle Thompson Floyd. Mr. Floyd was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Concord, N.C., a former Kayser Roth Hosiery shipping foreman, an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his vegetables with neighbors and friends, according to family members. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Haynes Floyd, and two grandchildren. Survivors include a son, Richard Marcus Floyd, Fenwick Island, Del.; daughter, Judy Carol Floyd Kluttz, Concord, N.C.; brother, Howard N. Fannie Whisnant Fannie Lee Whisnant, 84, of Commerce, died Wednesday, September 15, 2004, at Athens Regional Medical Center, Athens. She was born September 10, 1920 in Banks County and was the daughter of the late Mark and Mary Flowers Smith. Mrs. Whisnant was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn Whisnant. Survivors include five sons, Nathneil Whisnant, Commerce, Harold Whisnant, Arcade, Homer Whisnant, Commerce, U.V. Mrs. King was a sewing plant worker and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harvey Odell Gray and her second husband, Van King. Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Sarah and Robert Austin, Winder, and Jo Neil Childers, Royston; two sisters, Ora Kidd, Comer, and Geneva Reeves, Greenwood, S.C.; one sister-in-law, Mary Bell Kellum, Greenwood, S.C.; six grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was born in Madison County, February 27, 1925, and was the son of the late Charles Wilson and Lilly Ann Parham Bragg. Mr. Bragg was retired from the Overhead Door Company in Athens, attended Canon Church of God, and was a Gospel Fiddle Player. Mr. Bragg was a United States Navy veteran having served in World War II and was awarded three medals, Pacific, Azeactic, and Good Conduct. He was preceded in death by four brothers, John Hubert Bragg, Coy Washington Bragg, Carlos Johnson Bragg, and Calvin Cooledge Bragg. Survivors include his wife, Geneva Bertice Hix Bragg, Bowman; two sons James Daniel Bragg, Hull, and Gregory Clark Bragg, Bowman; a sister Lilly Irene Bragg Wald, New York City, N.Y.; and three grandchildren. She was born in Hardin County, Ohio, October 18, 1935, the daughter of the late Byron H. “Buss” and Sylvia M. Poe Shields. She worked at Wilson Sporting Goods and was a Baptist. Mrs. Conley was known to all as “Granny” for all the love she shared with her family, according to family members. She enjoyed researching the family genealogy, and also loved to crochet. Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Conley, Royston; sons and daughters-in-law, Byron and Linda Conley, Hartwell, and Lawrence and Sandy Conley, Waynesfield, Ohio; daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Krit Combs, Royston, and Brenda and Rick Royer, Belle Center, Ohio; brother, Harold E. She was born December 18, 1944, in Pensacola, Fla., the daughter of the late Nola McEarl Fuller. Mrs. Phillips was retired from Madison County High School having worked as a paraprofessional, was a member of the Georgia Teacher’s Association and was a member of the Community Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Alan S. Phillips, Danielsville; son and daughter-in-law, Wiley and Christine Phillips, Danielsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa Messer, Tammy and Jimmy Boyd, and Christy and Dan Fowler, all of Danielsville; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Kathy Fuller, Parsons, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Louise Meadows Louise Wallace Meadows, 82, of Arnoldsville, died Sunday, September 19, 2004. She was born May 8, 1922, the daughter of the late William Marvin Wallace and Sallie Johnson. Mrs. Meadows was a native of Oglethorpe County, was employed at Chipman Union for 38 years, retiring in March 1980. She was a homemaker and a member of Union Point Worship Center formerly Fire Baptized Congregational Holiness Church that she helped start in 1944. She taught Sunday School there and was a prayer warrior that loved the Lord with all her heart, according to her family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Meadows. Survivors include children, Elise Hardman, Comer, Frank Meadows Jr., Arnoldsville, Lucia Burt, Killeen, Texas, Janie Marchman, Greensboro, and Sammy Meadows, Athens; one sister, Sarah Meadows, Danielsville; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Ray Floyd Alton Ray Floyd, 74, of Lavonia, died Sunday, September 20, 2004, at his home. He was born in Hart County June 29, 1930, son of the late Ernest and Maude Hall Floyd. Mr. Floyd was a retired Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds with Johnson and Johnson in Royston. He was a member of Pleasent Grove Baptist Church, Lavonia, where he was a member of the Men’s Bible Class and the Buildings and Grounds Committee. He was preceded in death by a son, David Floyd, and sisters, Margaret Floyd and Mildred Pace. Survivors include his wife, Martha Jean Smith Floyd, Lavonia; sons Allen T. Floyd and Douglas Ray Floyd, both of Lavonia; sister Doris Fortson, Elberton; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Robert Wirtz, Jr. Robert Lewis Wirtz, Jr., 78, of High Point, N.C., died Sunday, September 19, 2004. He was formerly of Athens and was retired from E I Dupont after 35 years of service as a chemical engineer. He was a veteran having served in the United States Navy as a radioman on the USS Idaho during World War II. Mr. Wirtz was a member of the Elks Club, Lion’s Club, Rotary Club, Jaycees, and the United Way. He was a member of Emmanual Episcopal Church, Athens, and was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He was an avid gardener and golfer, according to family members. Mr. Wirtz lettered in golf under Harvey Penick at the University of Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Herndon Wirtz in 1983. Survivors include a son, Robert Lewis Wirtz, III, Athens; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathryn Virginia and David Marshall, Danielsville, Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” and Grayson Sutherland, Greensboro, N.C.; two grandchildren, Robert Adam Moxley and Sydney Gray Sutherland; and his beloved dog “Tuffy”. Mrs. Bell is survived by her husband, Freddie Bell as well as her mother, daughter and son in law, Tammy and Mark Young, Comer; brother and sister-in-law, Allen G. and Dot Kidd, Comer; sister and brother- in-law, Louise Kidd and Guy Bell, Comer; grandchildren, Courtney and Haley Young, both of Comer; and several nieces and nephews.
