He was a native of Jackson County and a son of the late William Roman Allen. He is survived by his mother, Clora Allen, Athens; four brothers and a sister-in-law, James and Sara Allen, Athens, William Allen, Commerce, Jerry Michael Allen and David Allen, both of Athens; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and Bobby Wilson, Hull, Mary and Doug Parr, Athens; and a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Thursday, August 26, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Oconee Hill Cemetery with Rev. Howard Conine of New Covenant Worship Center officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m. at Bridges Funeral Home. Georgia Price Georgia Palina Shackleford Price, 69, of Bowman, died Monday August 23, 2004 at her home. She was born in Franklin County on November 14, 1934, the daughter of the late Lonnie and Laura Atkinson Shackleford. Mrs. Price worked as a homemaker, was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Bowman, and was a member of the Hartwell Golf Club. She was preceded in death by her brother and sisters. Survivors include her husband, Joel Price, Bowman; daughters, Jo Ann Bagwell, Bowman, and Teresa V. Brown, Elberton; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David L. Bagwell and Mr. Brandon Bagwell officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery. She was born in Colberton April 21, 1917 the daughter of the late James Ira and Maude Jane Garrett Fortson. On May 4, 1935, Ellen Fortson married Charles Edward Adams. They were married for 59 years until his death in 1994. Mrs. Adams was a member of Bluestone Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class. Mrs. Adams humor, love, kindness, generosity and spirit will remain forever in our hearts. She will be remembered for her delicious fried apple pies and peach cobblers. She was a devoted wife, wonderful mother and friend, according to family members. She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Ronald “Chuck” Adams. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas W. “Bill” and Peggy Adams, Danielsville; daughter Joyce Adams Merkel, Silverdale Wash.; four grandchildren and their wives, Ted and Trish Adams, Greg and Karen Sartain, all of Danielsville, Chris and Lori Sartain, Comer, and Carrie Jane Merkel, Silverdale, Wash.; three great-grandchildren, Aaron and Adam Sartain, both of Danielsville, and Alexis Sartain, Comer; brothers, Tom and Frank Fortson, both of Colbert, and Carl Fortson, Ohio; sister, Mrs. Hoyt (Rilla) McGinnis, Nicholson; many nieces and nephews; the Rev. Dennis Wester and his wife, Deborah; and her wonderful friends at Abundant Living. Kathy Tune Kathy Smith Tune, 41, of Atlanta, died Wednesday, August 18, 2004. A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of Lester and Frances Dean Smith, Comer. Mrs. Tune graduated from the University of Georgia in 1986 and worked as an Administrative Assistant with Athens Technical School and Wesley Woods in Atlanta. Survivors in addition to her parents include her husband, Dr. Larry E. Tune; one son, Samuel Crawford, Atlanta; and a sister and brother-in- law, Tracey and David English, Habersham. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 21, 2004, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Rodney Owens officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Thomason, 84, of Ila, died Monday, August 16, 2004. Born in Ila on April 23, 1920, he lived his entire life there except for the two years he served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946. He was the only son of Mattie Fitzpatrick and Jake Thomason. Until his retirement in 1980, Mr. Thomason was a building contractor and from that time until recently he operated his farm. He was a member of Erastus Christian Church and rebuilt their church facility following the fire that destroyed the church in 1978. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Reather Freeman, China Grove, N.C. and Marie Lou Jones, Danielsville. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mildred Daniel Thomason of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Sammy and Kathy Thomason, Commerce, and Steven Thomason, Ila; six grandchildren, Jill Thomason Boyd, Wake Forest, N.C., Jacob, Clark, Samuel Jr., and Seth Thomason, all of Athens, and Laura Van Patten, Smyrna; one sister, Ethyl Keaton, Peachtree City. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 19, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Erastus Christian Church with the Revs. Billy Glosson and Doris Thomason officiating. Burial was in the Ila Cemetery. William Strickland Mr. William Delean Strickland, 66, of Jefferson, died August 21, 2004 after a sudden illness. He was born on October 31, 1937 in Madison County, the son of the late W.D. and Reutrell Baxter Strickland. He was a veteran of the United States Army, was a Sales Manager, and was a member of the Jefferson Lions club (Past President.) Mr. Strickland was a member of the Galilee Christian Church where he was a past Deacon and Elder. He was preceded in death by a son, William E. Strickland and brothers, Wayne and Roger Strickland. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Free Strickland, Jefferson; son and daughter-in-law, Kendall and Darlene Strickland, Jefferson; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Dale Dill, Jefferson, Rosie and Jack Cash, Statham, Diane Mendez, Athens, Mickey Miller, Jefferson; brothers, Donald, Dwight, and David Strickland, all of Jefferson, Daniel Strickland, Athens; sisters, Faye Swain, Jefferson, Peggy Usry, Lawrenceville, Patricia Warren, Charleston, S.C.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was born on February 18, 1961 in Madison County, the daughter of Gene and Robbie Storell Blalock of Danielsville. Mrs. Looney was a homemaker and attended Christian Life Fellowship Center. She is survived by her husband, John Looney, Jefferson, as well as her parents and daughters, Amanda Brooke Looney and Jamie Lynn Pressley, both of Jefferson; son, Bradley Blalock, Danielsville; sister, Arlene Blalock, Alabama; brothers, Danny Blalock, Watkinsville and Barry Blalock, Athens. Marion Fortson Mr. Marion Fortson, 64, of Dewy Rose, died Monday in the Athens Regional Medical Center. He was born in Elberton, the son of the late John C. and Annie Ruth Parham Fortson. Mr. Fortson was a Certified Public Accountant and was a partner in the firm of Fortson and Sanders CPA’s. He was past president of the Elberton Rotary Club, was a director of the Hart County Electric Membership Corporation, a member of the Elk’s Club, a past director of the Elberton Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the Elberton First Baptist Church. Mr. Fortson was preceded in death by a sister, Johnnie Brodeur. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Pratt Fortson; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Scott and Joanna Fortson and Phil Fortson, all of Duluth; one daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Nathan McLendon, Forsyth; three brothers, Wayne Fortson, Savannah, Don Fortson, Comer, and Jack Fortson, Augusta; three sisters, Annie Lou Cornell, Comer, Carolyn Barger, Elberton, and Dottie Wakefield, Dawsonville; and four grandsons. Bob Gabriel William Robert “Bob” Gabriel, Sr., of Danielsville, died Friday, August 20, 2004. A native of Oglethorpe County, he was a son of the late Julius M. and Mozelle Tucker Gabriel. He was a farmer and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Jean Gabriel; children, William Robert Gabriel, Jr., Lexington, Randy Gabriel, Colbert, Greg Gabriel, Statham, Marlene Dutton, Watkinsville, and Darlene McDaris, Athens; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Lynn Hutchinson, N.C., and Regina Hicks, Toccoa; five brothers, Julius, Garnett, Donald, Harry, and Larry Gabriel; five sisters, Thelma Gooch, Sybil Gooch, Doris Busbin, Betty Tiller Anderson, and Carol Jean Pattinson; and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, August 22, 2004 at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, Danielsville, with the Rev. Elmer Butler officiating. Burial was in the Winterville Cemetery.
