Matthew Cawthon Matthew Curt Cawthon, 31, of Canon, died Monday, October 18, 2004, at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston. He was born in Franklin County, August 23, 1973, the son of Ty and Peggy Pitts Cawthon, Canon. Mr. Cawthon graduated from Franklin County High School and attended Emmanuel College and the University of Georgia. He worked with Milliken and was a member of the New Franklin Christian Church. He was an avid deer hunter and loved fishing, according to family members. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, T.O. and Louise Chitwood Cawthon and maternal grandfather, Curtis McCay Pitts. Survivors include his parents and brothers and sisters-in-law, Tim and Lisa Cawthon, Martin, and Sam and Lori Cawthon, Canon; niece and nephew, Cort and Fallon Cawthon, Martin; and maternal grandmother, Geneva Welborn Pitts, Martin. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Episcopal Church, Winder, and was the founding director of Barrow County Child Development Center in 1974. Survivors include her husband, Edmund Lynch, son, Rev. She was employed with Thomas Textile for 18 years and retired from Reliance Electric after 25 years. Mrs. Aaron was a member and kindergarten Sunday School teacher at New Covenant Worship Center. Earl Brewer Earl Benson Brewer, 77, of Mount Pleasant, Tennessee, died Wednesday, October 20, 2004, in Maury Regional Hospital, Columbia, Tenn. Born in Danielsville, he was the son of the late Horace and Mamie Craft Brewer. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army and eight years prior in the United States Navy. Mr. Brewer was a retired heating and air tech for the United States Government and was a member of the VFW. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Beth Brewer and Randall Lay, Franklin, Tenn.; son, Carlos Benson Brewer, Mount Pleasant, Tenn; companion, Arbutus Brewer, Mount Pleasant, Tenn; and a grandson, Bradford Lay, Franklin, Tenn. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, October 30, at 1 p.m. at the Friendship Baptist Church in Danielsville with the Rev. Logan officiating. Gary Eberhart Gary Dean Eberhart, 55, of Lula, died Tuesday, October 26, 2004, after a sudden illness. Born in Jackson County November 28, 1948, he was the son of the late Edgar and Ila Irvin Eberhart. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army in Vietnam. Mr. Eberhart was a carpenter, carving objects out of wood, including Santa Claus and award winning ducks, and he was a member of Talmo Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his son, Gary “Dean” Eberhart. Survivors include his wife, Deborah Jane Eberhart, Macon; sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Fred Hemphill, Gillsville. Helen Davidson Helen Davidson, 83, of Jefferson, wife of Jack Davidson, prominent Jackson County attorney, died Friday, October 22, 2004. She was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, daughter of the late Henry H. and Mary Henderson Davidson. Mrs. Davidson was a homemaker, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Jefferson, the Jefferson Woman’s Club, former Superintendent of the Children’s Department of the First United Methodist Church of Jefferson, a Girl Scout leader, member of the Jackson County Historical Society, and a supporter of Reinhardt College, Waleska. Mrs. Davidson ran The Jackson Herald at times during the early 1960s when her husband served as president of the firm. She was in charge of the newspaper in 1965 when Herman and Helen Buffington purchased it from the Davidson group. “Helen and Jack were largely responsible for our coming to Jefferson,” Herman Buffington, president of the firm today, states. “We will never forget how both of them helped us, not only with financial arrangements but also personally, as we moved to a new community and assumed the responsibilities of the business. Mrs. Davidson, being the on-site operator of The Herald, was particularly helpful. We will never forget her efficiency and her gracious manner.” Survivors include her husband, daughter and son-in-law, Linda Daniel and James A. Daniel, Jr., LaGrange; son and daughter-in-law, Jack Davidson, Jr. and Robyn Davidson, Jefferson; six grandchildren, Robert D.
