A native of Madison County, Mr. Fortson was a son of the late Tom and Lizzie Lord Fortson. He was of the Holiness denomination. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Calvin Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Meadow Cemetery. Dudley, 70, of Danielsville, a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War, died Sunday, January 25, 2004, at Athens Regional Medical Center. Mr. Dudley was born in Madison County on March 23, 1933, son of the late Albert Goss and Myrtle Argo Dudley. He was a truck driver and retired from maintenance at the University of Georgia. Mr. Dudley was a member of the John H. Jones Masonic Lodge, the Danielsville V.F.W. Post, the American Legion in Lexington and the Holly Cove Camping Ground in Cherokee, N.C. Archer Mrs. Beulah Barrett Archer, 87, of Commerce, died Sunday, January 25, 2004, at Hartwell Health Care. Mrs. Archer was a daughter of the late Homer and Frankie Lou Anglin Savage. She was twice married, first to the late Frank Barrett, and second to the late Aucy Archer. Mrs. Archer was a homemaker and a member of the Commerce Church of God. She was preceded in death by three sons, Cecil Barrett, Willis Barrett and Bobby Barrett, and three brothers, Guy Savage, Roy Savage and James Savage. A native of Madison County, Mr. Porterfield was the son of the late Carl Wesley and Anne Mozelle Barnett Porterfield. His brothers, Troy, Burt and William E. Porterfield preceded him in death. He married Joanne Hancock Porterfield in 1950 in Carlisle, SC, and they celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary last year. Together they raised their two daughters, Sue Anne Porterfield Austin and Alice Carol Porterfield Crispin, in Athens. Mr. Porterfield’s greatest joy was in helping others — family, as well as his employees. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Porterfield was owner of Porterfield Building and Developing Co. for 47 years. He developed traditional residential and commercial property throughout the Athens area. During World War II he was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross while serving in the 8th Army Air Corps as a tail gunner flying on B-24s. He was a member of the Senior Golf Association, the Athens Country Club, Past President and Director of Athens Area Kiwanis Club, Past President and Director of the Athens Area Home Builders’ Association, Member of the Belle Meade Hunt Club in Thompson, GA, Deacon and Sunday school teacher at Prince Avenue Baptist Church and was a life-long avid University of Georgia Bulldog Supporter. Survivors include his wife, Joanne Hancock Porterfield, of Athens; daughters and sons-in-law: Sue and Glenn E. Bramlett, 89, of Winterville, died Monday, January 19, 2004. Born in Franklin County, Mr. Bramlett was a son of the late Josiah D. and Clara Hutcherson Bramlett. He received his associate arts degree from Young Harris College and his bachelor’s, master’s and specialist degrees in education from the University of Georgia. He was a longtime school administrator, having served in numerous counties, retiring from Thomasville City Schools. He was the first principal of Madison County High School. Mr. Bramlett served on the YMCA state board of directors, was a member of the Georgia Association of Educators, the Madison County Retired Teachers Association, the Thomasville Rotary Club, the Cordele Lions Club and the Hartwell Lions Club and was a charter member of the Winterville Civitan Club. He was also a member of Winterville United Methodist Church. Mr. Bramlett served on numerous boards and received many honors and awards of distinction. He worked in the trucking industry as a mechanic and a driver and was of the Baptist denomination.
