Brown J.W. Brown, 84, of Comer, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004. A native of Madison County, Mr. Brown a the son of the late Griff and Jennobie Cooper Brown. Mr. Brown was a retired veteran, having served 10 years in the United States Army and 10 years in the United States Air Force. He also retired from the Athens Navy School. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 28, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Barry Black officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Eberhardt Brown; three daughters, Darlene Grimes and Betty Jo Brown, both of Colbert, and Beth Jackson-Streb, Athens; one brother, Mell Brown, Columbus; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Welborn was born in Franklin County on July 4, 1956, the son of the late Harvey C. Welborn and Delina Little Hart. He attended Franklin County High School, Emmanuel College, the University of Georgia and Akers College. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served on the Color Guard at Fort Benning. Mr. Welborn was a brick mason and attended Mill Shoal Baptist Church. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Survivors include a sister, Lynn W. Turner, Royston; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Tyner Hugh Thomas Tyner, 79, of Danielsville, died Monday, May 31, 2004. A native of Madison County, Mr. Tyner was the son of the late Clifford and Lynne Fambrough Tyner. He was the owner and operator of Tyner Auto Parts in Danielsville. Mr. Tyner was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Thomas Tyner. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Revs. Ray Jenkins and Mike Hudman officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Steve Canup, Arland Fleming, Jim Brown, Eric Fleming, Eddie Grober, George Pate and Dennis Logan served as pallbearers. Milton Edward Burdette, 78, of Royston, died Friday, May 28, 2004, at Brown Memorial Convalescent Center in Royston. Born October 30, 1925, in Starr, S.C., the Rev. Burdette was the son of the late Shervis Burdette and Pauline Hall. He attended Bob Jones University in South Carolina and was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II. The Rev. Burdette was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Royston, where he was Pastor Emeritous, and was a retired custodial supervisor with the University of Georgia. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Fran Burdette, and a granddaughter, Bethany Reese. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 31, at Cornerstone Baptist Church with the Rev. Clint Harper officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Royston. The Rev. Burdette is survived by his wife, Dorothy Yearwood Burdette, Royston; three sons, Michael Burdette, Snellville, Gerry Burdette, Comer, and Rodmann Burdette, Athens; two daughters, Dana Carey, Royston, and Noelle Reese, St. Petersburg, Fla.; one step-son, Cary Clark, Clarkesville; and one sister, Julia Willis, Comer. Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, was in charge of arrangements. ---------------------------------------- The Madison County Journal, June 2, 2004 Pauline Kerr Mrs. Willie Pauline James Kerr, 96, of Hartwell, formerly of Royston, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Hart County Hospital. A lifelong resident of Franklin County, Mrs. Kerr was born March 14, 1908, a daughter of the late Wylie Compton and Evie Cornelia Phillips James. She was the wife of the late Rev. William C. Kerr, and was preceded in death by a son, David Lee Kerr, and a sister, Annie Bell James Grizzle. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and the last surviving grandchild of John Chappel James. A homemaker, Mrs. Kerr worked as a nurse’s aid for Cobb Memorial Hospital for several years. She was a member of New Hope Worship Center. “Granny Kerr, or ‘Aunt Peggy,’ as she was affectionately referred to by those who knew her, was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family and a generous, caring lady to all who knew her,” said family members. “Many souls have been helped by her prayers and her love. She will be missed by all those whose lives she has touched. We, her family, will carry her memory tenderly in our hearts. We know she has a special place in Heaven.” Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, at New Hope Worship Center with the Revs. Dennis Kesler Jr., Jonathan Randall and Grant Myemoltz officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Kerr’s grandsons served as pallbearers. Survivors include three daughters, Dolores Kerr McCarley, Cumming, Bonnie Rubena Fields, Hartwell, and Peggy Diane Martin, Royston; two sons, William Compton Kerr, Carnesville, and James Dennis Kerr, Redondo Beach, Calif.; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Born in Madison County on October 28, 1922, Mrs. Ginn was a daughter of the late S.M. and Era Fitts Carey. She was a homemaker and a member of the Evangelical Methodist Church. Mrs. Ginn was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. William Henry Ginn, a brother, Buford Carey, and a sister, Allie Dudley. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, at the Evangelical Methodist Church with the Revs. Lee Smith, Tim Peek and Billy Frank Carey officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Survivors include three brothers, Billy Carey, Ford Carey and John L. Carey, all of Danielsville; six sisters, Hester Sartain, Gladell Sexton, Ethel Sexton, Roberta Dove and Stuart Kirk, all of Danielsville, and Annie Mae Smith, Hull; and several nieces and nephews.
