Paul, 70, of Hull, died Monday, March 1, 2004, at his residence. Born in Saint Louis County, Mo., on April 25, 1933, Mr. Paul was a son of the late James H. and Anna Eldridge Paul. A veteran of the United States Navy, Mr. Paul served during the Korean War. He was a retired supervisor with the Environmental Protection Agency and was a member of Stewart Avenue Baptist Church, Hapeville. Humphries, 81, of Loganville, died Tuesday, February 24, 2004. A native of Chambers County, Ala., Mrs. Humphries was a retired accountant with the U.S. Department of Defense in Marietta, where she worked for 30 years. She was also a floral designer at the Flower Basket, Loganville, the Garden Basket, Lawrenceville, and Maude Baker Florist, Decatur. Mrs. Humphries was a member of Corinth Christian Church, the Loganville Senior Center and the Bay Creek Seniors. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 28, in Eternal Hills Chapel with Don Hardison, minister, officiating. Entombment was in Eternal Hills Memory Gardens. Turner, 94, of Athens, died Friday, February 27, 2004, after a brief illness. Mrs. Turner was the daughter of the late John C. Sorrells and the late Myrtie Hix Sorrells, Madison County. She attended school in Madison County until her family moved to Athens in 1919. Mrs. Turner graduated from Athens High School and attended Athens Normal School. She and her late husband of 49 years, Dr. Claude O. Turner Sr., were faithful members of the First Baptist Church of Athens. McDonald, 82, of Commerce, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Athens Regional Medical Center of an extended illness. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Lavonia, where she was active in the Gleaners Sunday School Class and the WMU. Chandler, 95, of Hull, died Wednesday, February 25, 2004, after a short illness. A native of Cornelia, Mrs. Chandler was born in 1908, to the late Joel D. and Maybelle Dorsey Slayton, the last of 13 children. She was the wife of the late William Ralph Chandler, a World War II veteran. She was the beloved mother of Beverly Arlene Bugg, who passed away in 1985, after a long illness. Mrs. Chandler was a graduate of Greensboro High School and served as a nurse in her younger years. She was a helpmate to her husband on the small farm in Hull that was purchased in 1949, in the Dogsboro area. She was a Sunday School teacher and a member for many years at Colbert United Methodist Church. “A good Christian lady with a strong will and a heart full of love, she served her community by being a good friend and neighbor to all,” it was stated. “She lived a simple, quiet life anyone could be proud of.” Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 27, in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, with the Revs. James Haralson and Ralph Arnold officiating.
