Carmel Parten Miss Carmel Parten, 88, of Royston, died Sunday, September 5, 2004, at her home. She was born in Franklin County, on June 5, 1916, a daughter of the late B.E. and Teresia Phillips Parten. She was a farmer and member of the Pennington Chapel United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilburn (Bill) Parten and George Parten, five sisters, Montene Parten, Madge Parten, Retha Phillips, Ellis Sorrells and Nina Brooks. Survivors include a brother, Travis Parten, Royston; two sisters, Lucy Haley and Winnie Patterson, both of Royston; several nieces, nephews and great nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 7, at the Pennington Chapel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Earl Goode and Brian David officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Danny ‘Pop’ Worley Danny “Pop” Worley, 48, of Danielsville, died September 5, 2004. He was a member of the Community Baptist Church. He was born September 19, 1960, the son of David and Julia Bush Strickland. He was a veteran, having served three years in the United States Army and was employed at Oliver Rubber Company for 10-1/2 years. Keith accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Flat Creek Baptist Church, where he served on the Usher and Trustee Boards. Keith was affectionately called “Strick” by his friends, loved to entertain and hosted many parties and family gatherings. “His favorite hobby was fishing and he left this world doing just that”, according to family members He was preceded in death by one son, Brian Keith Strickland. Survivors include his loving wife of 18-1/2 years, Sharon Ann Holder Strickland, Hull; parents David and Julia Strickland, Commerce; two sons, Denorris Tramon Faulkner, Nicholson, and Antoine Rashad Strickland, Hull; two daughters, Rishanda Lachelle Beasley and Amber Danielle Louise Strickland, both of Hull; two granddaughters, Nakyra Sharaee Strickland, Commerce, and Ja’Keveia Richelle Warren, Hull; two sisters, V. Survivors include her husband, James Tompkins, Sr.,; a son, James Tompkins Jr., Tampa, Fla.; daughter, Donnah Sandel, Callahan, Fla.; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four sisters, Louise Patrick, Danielsville, Patsy Drawdy and Shirley Currie, Lexington, S.C., and Laverne McCormick, Dallas; and several nieces and nephews. Georgia Cantrell Georgia Lou Stephens Cantrell, 84, of Alto, died Thursday, September 2, 2004 at her residence following a sudden illness. Born in Habersham County on June 29, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Lon Bartow Stephens and Lillie McClellan Stephens. She was a homemaker and a member of Alto Congregational Holiness Church. Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Dewey Cantrell, sisters Hazel S. Bennett and Zona Jordan, and brothers Joe and Hoyt Stephens. Survivors include her daughter, Sue Westbrook, Demorest; sons, Ronnie Cantrell, Alto, and Randy Cantrell, Cornelia; sister, Marie Ballew Chosewood, Alto; brother, Homer Stephens, Cornelia; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. William Sutton William Elisha Sutton, Sr., 85, of Alto, died Saturday, September 4, 2004, at his residence. He was born in White County on January 2, 1919, and was a son of the late Thomas Frances and Lula Sara Sutton. He raised chickens, was a sawmiller, was retired after approximately 30 years as a security officer at Alto State prison, now Lee Arrendale Correctional Prison, and was a member of the Georgia Peace Officers Association. Mr. Sutton was an evangelist minister in the area for many years and was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann Moore Sutton, his foster parents, Homer and Pearl Warwick, and brothers, Carl, Emory, R.G., and Leonard Sutton and Clarence Warwick. Survivors include his wife, Elsie Blackburn Sutton, Alto; daughters, Barbara S. Jordan, Woodstock, and Sandra D. Parido, Winchester, Ky.; sons, William E. Sutton, Jr., Mansfield, Ohio, Thomas A. Sutton, Lula, Jerry M. Sutton, Elberton, and Rick G. Sutton, Alto; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Paul Brooks Paul Brooks, 70, of Royston, died Saturday, September 4, 2004, at the Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston. Born June 30, 1934, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Omer Armenius and Adelaide Abbot Brooks. He was a farmer and was a member of the Middle River Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Willie R. Brooks and a sister, Lillian Phillips. Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Reese Brooks; three brothers, Jewell Brooks, Greenville, S.C., Charles Brooks, Williamston, S.C., and Benjamin Brooks, Mauldin, S.C.; four sisters, Ruby Willis, Traveler’s Rest, S.C., Sara Davison, Royston, Mary Elrod, Hull, and Jeanette McCurry, Ellijay; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mamie Holcomb Mamie Lou Drake Holcomb, 86, of Commerce, died Saturday, September 4, 2004, at the Banks Jackson Commerce Medical Center of an extended illness. She was a loving and caring mother, according to family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Holcomb, a daughter, Cheryl Vickery, and a grandson, Jeff Woodall. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Melva and Gene Martin, Homer; son-in-law, Alan Vickery, Commerce; four grandchildren, Candace Self, Tal Martin, David Vickery and Caleb Vickery; eight great- grandchildren; and a niece, Mary Florence Wilder, Jackson. Harold Satterfield, Sr. Harold Lloyd Satterfield, Sr., 82, of Pendergrass, died Wednesday, September 1, 2004, at the New Horizon North Nursing Home in Gainesville, following an extended illness. He was a native of Gwinnett County and lived most of his life in Hall and Jackson Counties. Mr. Satterfield was the son of the late Abraham Lincoln and Leola Majors Satterfield. He was a retired welder and was a member of Talmo Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Clara Nell Hooper Satterfield, and his second wife, Mary Daily Satterfield, and three sons, Kenneth, Curtis and Mitchell Satterfield. Survivors include two sons, Harold L. Satterfield, Jr., Cleveland, and Sam Satterfield, Pendergrass; three daughters, Nancy Whitlock, Jefferson, Linda Albertson and Carol Holman, both of Gainesville; two stepsons, Don T.
