A native of Boonville, Ind., Mr. Kirby was the son of the late J.T. and Delta Cron Kirby. Mr. Kirby was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a farmer. He was of the Baptist denomination. Mr. Kirby was preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine Hayes Kirby, and his second wife, Barbara Long Kirby. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 7, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Buford Lockman officiating. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Susan Kirby; three grandchildren, Kelley King and Patricia and Christopher Kirby; and one great-granddaughter, Caitlyn King. Richardson, 81, of Danielsville, died Saturday, June 5, 2004. Known as “Pa Paw” to friends and family, Mr. Richardson was a native of Berrien County, and was the son of the late Owen and Appie Gray Richardson. In 1963, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Richardson moved to Athens from Lavonia, where they owned City Café. Their move to Athens was a result of purchasing the Mayflower Restaurant in downtown Athens, which they owned and operated for 17 years. Mr. Richardson retired after a total of 35 years in the restaurant business and went to work for the University of Georgia Golf Course, retiring from there in 1987. He was a member of Moons Grove Baptist Church. “He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather,” said family members. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Moons Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Lee officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Ricky Vaughn, Randy Vaughn, Bill Forbes, Robert Johnston, Allen Johnston and Charles Hosea served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Greg Hallford, Roger Hallford, Harold Hallford, Arthur Hosea, Charles Smith, Larry Hallford and Rick Vaughn. Mr. Richardson is survived by his wife, Ollie Mae Hallford Richardson, Danielsville; daughter, Doye Lynn Church, Danielsville; grandchildren, Denise and Doug Kesler, DRee and Todd Krohn and Clemoth and Samantha Church; great-grandchildren, Brooke, Kayde and Megan Kesler, Jack and Luke Krohn and Maddie Grace and Mac Church; and a number of nieces and nephews. Wood Phillip D. Wood, 83, of Commerce, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at St. Mary’s Longterm Care Center. Mr. Wood was born in Madison County on February 22, 1921, a son of the late Elmer George and Willie Katherine McGinnis Wood. A retired poultry farmer, Mr. Wood was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. He was a member of Berea Baptist Church, Commerce. Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Sorrow Wood. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 7, in the Berea Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Don Blalock and Curtis Dorsey officiating. Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Byrd and Phyllis Chandler, both of Commerce; one brother, Henry Ford Wood, Commerce; two sisters, Betty Bolton and Rachel Hawks, both of Commerce; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Shook was born April 2, 1976. He was employed with Stiles Construction. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 10, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce. Burial will be in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce. A United States Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Janes made his home in Madison County for 40 years. He retired from Wellington-Puritan and was a member of Bluestone Baptist Church, Danielsville. Crocker Mrs. Eula Mae Crocker, 94, of Commerce, died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Athens, of an extended illness. Mrs. Crocker was the daughter of the late Hubert and Bessie Pruitt Leach, and the wife of the late Herman Young (Brud) Crocker. She was preceded in death by a son, Fred J. Crocker. Mrs. Crocker retired from Harmony Grove Mill, Commerce, after 57 years of service. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 6, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Mrs. Barnes was born in Brevard, N.C., on January 10, 1912, the daughter of the late Cair and Pearl Neill Whitmire. She was a retired secretary and a member of the Royston First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the LOVE Circle and the Adult Bible Study. “Mrs. Barnes was a caring lady, always willing to help others as she served at the Ty Cobb Health Care Center, Pink Ladies Auxiliary,” it was stated. Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her husband, James Doyle Barnes, and a brother, James Whitmire. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with Dr. Brian Clark officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Royston. Embrick Mrs. Sarah Miller Embrick, 59, of Jefferson, died Monday, June 7, 2004, of a sudden illness. Born in Winnsboro, S.C., Mrs. Embrick was a daughter of L.C. Miller, Hull, and the late Gladys Legrand Harris, and the step-daughter of Mozelle Miller, Hull. She was a homemaker and a member of Brockton Road Baptist Church. Mrs. Embrick was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Embrick. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Revs. Doug Merck and Jesse Mealor officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
