A native of Clarke County, Mr. Akins was a son of the late James Milton Akins Sr. and Helen Pauline McCurley Akins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Ross Akins. He was retired from Reliance, was a member of Vineyards Creek Baptist Church and of the Collins District Volunteer Fire Department. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Don Fuller and James Creason officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Janet Lynne Smith Akins; a daughter, Olivia Fortson, Comer; a son, Brian Keith Akins, Athens; two sisters, Elizabeth Babineaux, Louisiana, and Delores Mann, North Carolina; a brother, James M. Akins Jr., Elberton; and two grandchildren. Funeral home employees will serve as pallbearers. Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, has charge of arrangements.
