Mitchell Palmer Bond, 86,of Royston, died quietly at his residence Wednesday, 
September 13, surrounded by his family following a long and courageous battle 
with Parkinson’s disease.

He was born on April 20, 1920, in Madison County, attended Bond Academy and 
graduated from Royston High School in 1935. He graduated from Young Harris 
College and also from the University of Georgia, earning a Bachelor of Science 
Degree, and was a member of Phi Kappa Phi. He was a veteran, having served in 
the United States Army, stationed in the China-Burma-India Theater during 
World War II.

He was dedicated to his family, church and community, according to loved ones. 
He faithfully served the Royston First United Methodist Church as chairman of 
the education committee, chairman of the finance committee, charter member of 
the United Methodist Men and chairman of the Administrative Council.
Mr. Bond was a community leader of Royston. He served as president of the 
Chamber of Commerce, the Lion’s Club, the P.T.A., the Shriners, Trustee of 
Royston School, and he served on the City Council and was Mayor of Royston. 
During his career in the poultry business, he founded Mitchell P. Bond 
Hatchery. He served as member, director and president of the advisory board 
for the north Georgia Poultry Federation, Vice-Chairman of the Georgia Poultry 
Improvement Association, and served on the World Poultry Congress.
Mr. Bond was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Susie Cunningham Bond; 
and a sister, Malinda Eleanor Bond.

Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Palma Bond Stewart, 
Wilmington, Del., and Marjorie Bond and Richard Moore, Royston; five 
grandchildren, Lauren and Hayden Stewart, and Lindsey, Quen and Larsen Moore; 
a sister and brother-in-law, Jessie Mary and Othniel McGehee, Macon, Jess’s 
son, Steve Balkcom and his wife, Nancy and their two daughters, Ginny and 
Sarah; and grandson, Chris Holcomb.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 16, at the Royston First United 
Methodist Church with the Revs. Jim McCollough and Bobby Anthony officiating. 
Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Royston.
