Born on September 4, 1925, he was the son of the late James W. and Ottis Phillips Boyer. He was a member of the Commerce Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder, and was a member of the American Legion and Fleet Reserve Association. Mr. Boyer was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II where he received 4 Good Contact Medals and two National Defense Service Medals. He was retired as a 1st Class Petty Officer. Survivors include his wife, Carlie Mae Mackey Boyer; sons, Dale Boyer, Commerce, and Larry Boyer, Greenville, N.C.; daughters, Sandra Ryder, Danielsville, and Glenda Brannon, Dawsonville; sisters, Gladys Brownlee, Darlene McCollum and Dovie Garrett; 10 grandchildren, Sarah Chancey, Bryn Boyer, Art Boyer, Erin Boyer, Glenn Ryder, Brian Brannon, Steven Boyer, Will Ryder, Clay Brannon and April Boyer; and one great-grandchild, Ella Chancey. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 25, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Calvin Ward and Dr. Tom Lewis officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were grandsons. Memorial contributions may be made St. Mary’s Hospice House, 1660 Jennings Mill Parkway, Bogart, Ga. 30622.
