JOHN B. BROWN DIES; FUNERAL SERVICES MONDAY Deepest sadness enveloped our town and community at the passing of the beloved Pastor of Comer Baptist Church, Rev. J. B. Brown, last Sunday morning at an Athens Hospital, after a week's illness. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Comer Church, Rev. J. D. Matheson, of Thomson, Rev. J. C. West, Hart County and Dr. James C. Wilkinson, First Baptist Church of Athens, officiating. Burial was in Bethany Church Cemetery, in Hart County with nephews serving as pallbearers. Rev. Brown is Survived by his Widow, Mrs. Maude Brown; by two daughters, Miss Mattie June Brown, Comer; and Mrs. W. J. Ray, Danielsville; six sons: Captain W. R. Brown, Bryson, Texas; Rev. R. Cranfill Brown, Sandersville, Ga.; J. Fred Brown, Anderson, S. C.; George B. Brown, and Cpl. C. Mack Brown, both of the U. S. Army now serving overseas; and Rev. Leroy c. Brown of Woodbury, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. M. Greenway, several nieces and nephews; seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A native of South Carolina, Mr. Brown had served the Comer Baptist Church as Pastor for ten years. He was called back last year and was in the midst of his eleventh fruitful year of service here. To say that his congregation is deeply grieved barely expresses their love and affection. Many lives were inspired by his Christianity: his faith in god and his splendid example of Christian living. To all he gave a kindly consideration never turning aside from one in need nor leaving an opportunity for service ministering to all in sickness and in sorrow. Surely he will enjoy the Master's summons: " Well done, thy good and faithful servant.
