Dr. John Hampton Carson, 71, of Hertford, N.C., died Friday, June 23, 2006, in 
Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital in Norfolk, Va.  A native of St. Petersburg, 
Fla., he was the son of the late Eugene L. and Erma Carson Lessard. He was a 
retired professor at Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City and 
served as a chairman of the business department.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Fortson Carson, formerly of Danielsville; 
two daughters, Karen C. Warren, Edenton, N.C., and Christine C. Sonano, 
Huntington Beach, Calif; two sons, John Hampton Carson, Jr., Findlay, Ohio, and 
Stanley James Carson, Perrysburg, Ohio; a sister, Nancy C. Parker, Houston, 
Texas; brother, Eugene L. Carson, Jr., Stons, Conn.; eight grandchildren; and 
five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 26, at Faith Pentecostal Holiness 
Church in Edenton, N.C., with the Rev. Danny Gurganus officiating.   Memorial 
contributions may be made to the Faith Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1614 
Virginia Road, Edenton, N.C. 27932.  Swindell Funeral Home, Hertford, N.C., was 
in charge of arrangements.
