He had been ill a week prior to his death. Born in Madison County, he was the son of the late James Thornton and Mary Strickland Chandler. Married three times, his first wife was the former Miss Mary Nash. Later, he married Miss Eva Hampton. Then, in 1915, he was married to the former Miss Sallie Graham, who survives him. Funeral services were conducted from the Friendship Baptist Church of which he was a member. Rev. T. C. Hardmanand Rev. George C. Bond officiated. Burial was in the Chandler Family cemetery. Surviving are the following children: Mrs. G. G. Beard, Athens; Mrs. H. H. Beard, Atlanta; J. O. Chandler, Greeville, SC; Miss Luis Chandler and Mrs. W. D. Lord, both of Ila; Mrs. J. R. Sorrow, Kannapolis, NC; Mrs. Ralph James, Bowersville; Ralph Chandler, San Jose, Calif; Horace Chandler, Athens and one stepchild, Mrs. S. J. Chandler, Danielsville. 20 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren also survive. Cunninhham & Pruitte, Royston, were in charge.
