L.W. COLLIER IS CLAIMED BY DEATH Was Prominent In Religious And Educational Circles In Northeast Georgia. Funeral Yesterday. L.W. Collier, 82, for twenty-five years a trustee of Gibson-Mercer school at Bowman and very prominent in building up religious and educational institutions in rural communities, died at his home near here Tuesday afternoon at five o'clock. Death followed an illness of two weeks. Mr. Collier was born in Stewart Co. Georgia but had lived in Oglethorpe for seventy years. He was known as one of the most successful planters of Oglethorpe county. He was a deacon in the Baptist Church for forty-seven years and a tireless religious worker. Mr. Collier is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minta D. Collier. Funeral services were conducted from the residence yesterday afternoon at 3:30, the Rev. John D. Mell officiating. The following acted as active pall- bearers: Messers T.C. Davison, J.D. Powers, E.W. Johnson, Vick Stephens, L.C. Chandler and Murray Slaton. Honorary pall bearers were: L.F. Edwards, Rev. W.M. Coile, L.W. Hendrick, T. Carl Stevens, C.O. Stevens, John Crowley, George Howard, C. A. Stevens, Ed Howard, and C.A. Stevens.
