Hammond, well known Comer resident died at his home last Friday night at 9:25 o'clock. Mr. Hammond was 46 years old and had been sick for the past six months. Funeral services were conducted last Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock from Comer Baptist Church by Rev. Girod Cole of Conyers, assisted by Rev. W.B. Hoats, Baptist pastor, and Rev. W.R. Braswell, pastor of the Methodist Chruch. Interment was in Comer Cemetery with Bridges Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were nephews of Mr. Hammond: Walter Howell Hammond, Joe Ed Hammond, Claude King, Walter Murray, Jr., Eugene Doyle and Reese Simmons. The honorary escort included the members of the Lions Club and of the Business Men's Sunday School Class of Comer Baptist Church. A Mason, member of the Woodmen of the World and Lions Club. Mr. Hammond is survived by his wife, Mrs. Beulah Benton Hammond, Comer; daughter, Miss Sandra Hammond, Comer; four sisters: Mrs. C.L. Gordon and Mrs. B.C. Nash, both of Comer; Mrs. Earl King Carlton, and Mrs. Mary Simmons, Buckroe Beach, VA; and two brothers, E.B. Hammond and J.D. Hammond, both of Comer. A native of Comer, Mr. Hammond was a lifelong resident there, operating a mercantile business in Comer. He was prominent in church and civic affairs until his health became impaired.
