Mrs. Mattie Haggard Rites Held

   Mrs. Mattie Jane Lord Haggard, 96, of Rt. 2, Danielsville, the Fort Lamar 
community, died Tuesday night, January 20th in the BJC Nursing Home near 
Commerce, following an extended illness.
   Mrs. Haggard was born  in Jackson County, Nov. 28, 1873, a daughter of the 
late Jesse Lord and Mrs. Kate Chandler Lord.  She was a member of Blacks Creek 
Primitive Baptist Church.
   Her husband was the late Samuel Gary Haggard, who died in 1948.
   Survivors:  one daughter, MRs. A. L. Martin of Easley, S.C.; five sons, 
William R., Guy, T.W., Mell V. Haggard, all of Danielsville, Alvin Haggard of 
Marietta; one brother, Tom Lord of Commerce; 36 grandchildren; a number of 
great-grandchildren.
   Funeral services were held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Ivie Funeral Home with 
Elder W. F. Beauford and the Rev. J. C. Parker officiating.  Burial was in 
Black's Creek cemetery.
