WALTER M. MARTIN OF CARLTON DIES

   Walter M. Martin, 80 years old, of Carlton, died early Monday night at the 
General Hospital, in Athens, following a longn period of declining health.  
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock at the Carlton 
Baptist Church by the Rev. William Crowe, and burial in the Carlton cemetery.  
The Elberton Department Store funeral directors had charge of arrangements.  
He was a member of one of Madison County's most prominent families and 
throughout his lieftimehe was recognizedas one of its best citizens.
   Mr. Martin is survived by his wife; a daughter, mrs. J. C. Bennett of 
Florida; a son, R. W. Martin of Carlton; a brother, E. E. Martin of Winter 
Park, Florida; a sister, Mrs. M. L. Fisher of Carlton; and two grandchildren, 
R. W. Martin, Jr., and David Martin of Carlton.
