Ruth Duncan Massey, 97, of Canon, died Tuesday, November 9, 2004, in Brown 
Memorial Convalescent Center, Royston.

A native of Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Paris and Valsie 
Roberts Duncan. She was a life long member of Canon Baptist Church where she 
sang in the choir and taught Sunday School until she was 90 years old. She was 
preceded in death by her husband, Horace E. Massey, daughter, Marcene Massey 
Nicholson, son, James P. Massey, granddaughter, Toni Hopkins Thompson, four 
brothers, Horace, Grady, Hugh and B.T. Duncan, and two sisters, Gladys Duncan 
Wray and Myria Duncan Kelly.

Survivors include a son, H. Eldon Massey, Canon; daughters and sons-in-law, 
Betty Massey Prather, Elberton, Louise Massey Hendrix, Athens, and Dolores 
Massey and Donald Vickery, Hartwell, James Nicholson, Charlotte, N.C.; sister-
in-law, Grace Massey, Lavonia; eight grandchildren, Terry Strickland, Roanoke 
Rapids, N.C., Linda Dietricks, Marietta, John Hendrix, Raleigh, N.C., Ron 
Hendrix, Grayson, Kathy Butterfield, Powell, Ohio, Jeff and Reggie Vickery, 
both of Hartwell, and Shane Alexander, Lawrenceville; 19 great-grandchildren; 
and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 13, at the Canon Baptist Church 
with the Revs. Paul Creason and Jonathan Peppers officiating. Burial was in 
the Oakview Cemetery in Canon.

Memorials may be made to the Canon Baptist Church, c/o Thomas Cawthon, 124 
Sundown Circle, Hartwell, Ga. 30643.

Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, was in charge of arrangements.
