M. F. MCWHIRTER PASSES TO THE GREAT BEYOND Mr. Morgan P. McWhirter, age 78 years died at his home at Fort Lamar on August 27th and was laid to rest in the cemetery at that place the day following, with funeral services conducted by his pastor, Rev. M.C. Allen, assisted by a former pastor, Rev. A.A. Sullivan. A large number were present to pay their last tribute of respect. Mr. McWhirter had lived in or near the Fort Lamar community for a long period of years--probably more than 60 years. He was twice married--first to Miss Caladonia Hutcherson, who preceded him to the grave some thirty years ago. She was the mother of his children. Later, he married Miss Mollie Akin of Franklin County, who survives him. He is also survived by the following children: J.H. of Fort Lamar, M.C. of Athens, George E. and Hope of Elberton, Mrs. Herbert Smith of Ashland, Mrs. Robert Langford of Danielsville, and Mrs. J.P. Ferguson of Valdosta. Also by two brothers Mr. L.B McWhirter of Royston, and Mr. J.B. McWhirter of Comer and by several grandchildren and other relatives. Mr. McWhirter was a good citizen -- one who for ___ to make a good community . Unlaw and order and the things which til the las few years he took and active part in church and community work, and will be greatly missed, not only by his own family, but by many others also.
