J. B. McWHIRTER A voice we loved is silent. A warm heart beats no more, a beloved friend has departed. Death claimed one of our most faithful member, Mrs. J. B. McWhirter, who passed away at the home of one of her daughters in Atlanta, July 2, 1945, after a long illness. A loving God whom she served well guided her through the morning and noontide of life and she was well within the shadows of evening when the summons came. her life so calm and serene was lived with thought and deeds for others. Her active days found her attentive to the needs of her home and family and she gave generous service to her church and all it stood for. She was one of five who were charter members of this organization when it was organized in November 1905. It was then called the Woman's Missionary Society. Faithful, Trustful, she bore the attitude of the Psalmist where he said-- The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want, He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For though art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me, Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. We are glad to join others in paying tribute to her memory therefore, Be it resolved that her life ever be a pattern and example to the members who undertake to carry on: that the work she has done to inspire us to greater undertakings. Further be it resolved; that we extend her family our love and sympathy; that a copy of these resolutions be spread on our minutes, and a copy be sent the family and one to the local newspaper.
