I. J. Meadow, which occurred at his home in Comer Monday afternoon. He had been in declining health for two years past and his death was not unexpected, but was no less a crushing blow to his family and relatives when it came. Mr. Meadow was a noble veteran of the "Lost Cause," having entered the Confederate army as a private and coming out as a lieutenant. He was a man of strong character -- a natural leader -- and had been county treasurer, member of the legislature, deputy collector of the internal revenue, and had held many other positions of trust and honor, in all of which he showed no unwavering fidelity to duty and a sturdy integrity which proved him to be that noblest work of God -- an honest man. He was a public spirited citizen, ever awake to the best interests of his county and society and always manifested a deep interest in the welfare of his friends and neighbors contributing cheerfully, to the extent of his ability, to the ___________of human suffering and trials; ;and therefore our people, both individually and colectively, feel that in this death they have lost a true and valued friend and his demise will be sincerely mourned. He had been for a number of years an acceptable and valuable member of the Methodist church and adorned the profession, he had made by an upright, faithful and humble Christian life. He was devoted to his wife and children and they have lost their best earthly friend. He was 67 years old, and his remains were buried in the cemetery here Tuesday afternoon - Revs. Nunn and Pharr conducting the funeral services. We believe that his glorious spirit is now an occupant of that 'house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens." May God richly bless and comfort with His grace, the heart broken wife, children and other relatives, and may they derive consolation from the thought that there is now one tie less to bind them to earth, one more to draw them to heaven.
