O'Kelley The subject of this sketch was born in Oglethorpe county, Ga. on the 18th day of March, 1818. He was the son of James M. and Dicey O'Kelley. He had been a member of the Primitive Baptist church and more than fifty- five years, having joined Beaverdam church at the water, about the year 1843. He lived up to the profession he then made to the day of his death - the profession that God, through the atoning blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, saves sinners. He first married Lucinda David, daughter of Morsassett David, in the year 1845, with whom he lived until the year 1867, when she died suddenly, leaving three living children who still survive. He then married Sarah Jane Bennett, who with six living children, survives him. He resided in Oglethorpe count until about the year 1848 when he moved to Madison county, where he resided until November, 1885, when e with his wife and young family, moved to Talladega county, Ala. Two of his older children also moved to that State. His health was good until about two years ago, when he had an attack of grip, from which he never recovered fully. On the 17th day of July, 1899, he fell asleep in Jesus. "Asleep in Jesus! Blessed sleep; From which none ever wake to weep; A calm and undisturbed repose, Unbroken by the last of foes." But, blessed thought! he left the sweet assurance that he has gone to dwell with his Saviour, whom he loved so well. He never tired talking of God and His goodness. His character was of the highest order; it was Christlike. He was so mild and gentle, his words so soft and sweet, that he gained the love and high esteem of all who knew him. I ask the prayers of all the dear saints of God, that He may enable me to so live that I may adorn the profession I have made as he adorned the profession he made, for he truly adorned his profession in life, enjoyed its comforts in death and is now with Christ Jesus in glory, reaping the blessed reword, where he will remain through eternity. May I, together with all the redeemed, be enabled to meet him, is my prayer, for Christ's sake. M. J.
