A.L. PAYNE DIED SATURDAY Prominent Physician of Fort Lamar, Madison County, Died Saturday night Following Short Illness. Dr. A.L. Payne, prominent Madison county physician, died at a locak hospital at 10 o'clock Saturday night. He had been ill only three days. He was 65 years old. Dr. Payne was born in Carnesville, Ga., Franklin County but resided at Fort Lamar in Madison county for over thirty years. He was widely known as one of the most prominent physicians in North East Georgia, and numbered his friends in this section by the thousands. One son Prof. W. O. Payne of Athens, holds a chair of history at the University and another Dr. DeWitt Payne resides at Fort Lamar where he is in the active practice of Medicine. Both are well known locally and throughout the State. Funeral services and interment will be announced later it was stated Saturday night. Dr. Payne was a member of the Methodist Church. The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lucy Trella Payne, two sons, Prof. W. O. Payne of Athens, and Dr. DeWitt Payne of Fort Lamar and one daughter Mrs. C. N. McWhirter, of Athens.
