Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 27, 2006 at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus with Reverend Jim Hilderbrand officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Born in Colbert, Madison County, Georgia, Red was the son of the late Orion Porterfield and Olive Power Porterfield. A long-time Columbus resident, Red began his 27-year career in the U.S. Army in 1947, and retired with the rank of Master Sergeant in 1974. During his military career he served in Korea and Viet Nam, was awarded numerous medals and commendations. After his retirement he operated his own upholstery business in Columbus. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy ìDotî (Williams) Porterfield, and a brother, Neal ìJackî Porterfield. Survivors include two sons, Steve Porterfield and his wife Karen of Acworth, GA, and David Porterfield and his wife Taletha of Springfield, MO; a daughter, Karen E.
