W. W. POWER DIED TUESDAY In the death of Dr. W. W. Power which occured at his home in Power town Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock, Buford lost one of its most substantial citizens and energetic spirits. Dr. Power has been a sufferer for a number of years with a cancer on his neck but his spirits of "never give up" strengthened him and lengthened his days until he had reached the ripe old age of 76 years. His birthday being celebrated with a family reunion at the home of his youngest sister, Mrs. Emma Wilson, on July 12. The doctor was probably the oldest citizen in point of years in Buford he having been a citiaen of this city for over fifty years, however, he moved from Buford when a young man, to Athens, but later returned to our city and remained until death. Dr. Power was a member of the Medical association, of Gwinnett county, and the second oldest physician having been in actie practice of his profession since 1872. Dr. Power was a son of Capt. Frances and Sarah Graham Power, of Madison county, Ga.. His father Capt. Power was killed in the battle of Chickamauga in 1863. At an early age he enlisted in the Confederat Army and saw active service for a period of months. He was also a member of the local Veterans camp and attended their yearly reunion in the various cities off the Southern States. At the close of the Confederate War and during the first days of reconstruction he was a devout member of the Ku Klux Klan, this accorded him membership in the Klan of today and as his grave was being finished four figures dressed in the white robes and helmets of the Klan regalia placed a beautiful wreath of flowers on it together with an American flag--after saluting the flag the Klansmen offered a silent prayer at his grave. The deceased was a devoted member of the Buford Baptist Church and practised his religion as only a real good Christian can. ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ Madison County, when quite a young man. In the year of 1880 he was married to Miss Amatya Hadaway of Flowery Branch, who preceeded him to his grave 28 years ago. To this union was born the following Frank Cleo Power of New York City, Mrs. James C. Power, of Buford and Robert Dolva Power, of New York City. The following are brothers and sisters of the deceased: J. G. Power and C. G. Power of Buford; Mrs. J. A. Ambrose, of Lawrenceville; Mrs. A. J. Street, of Atlanta, and Mrs. Emma Wilson, of Buford. The popularity of Dr. "Bill," as he was familarly known, was attested by the many flora offersing at his grave and the large concorse of sorrowing friends and grieved relatives who followed him at his last resting place. The funeral was conducted this (Thursday) afternoon from the Baptist Church by his pastor, the Rev. A. B. Couch, of Smyrna. Interment occured afterwards in the city cemetery with Messrs. G. P. Tapp and J. H. Davis in charge of the arrangements. Dr. Power was laid to rest by the side of his wife.
