Rice. Mr. Rice was one of Madison county's most prominent and influential citizens. He was a member of the county board of education and had always taken a deep interest in all maters pertaining to the advancement of his county and state. Funeral services were conducted at Mount Hebron Baptist church, of which he was a member. A large number of friends and relatives, including many from Danielsville, Comer, Royston and other cities, attended the services.Dr. W. R. Henderson officiated and the body was interred in Mount Hebron cemetery. Mr. Rice attended the home-coming convention at Fort Lamar last Saturday and was apparently in excellent health. The deceased leaves a wife, formerly Miss Amanda Hutcherson, of Elbert county, and the following children: Talmadge Rice and Garnett Rice, of Madison County; Mrs. R. D. Burress and Mrs. Dr. G. W. Westbrook, of Ila, Madison county; Misses Lois and Bertha Rice, of Madison county. Additional Comments: Madison Co. marriage records show that John H. Rice and Amanda E. Hutchinson were married on 19 Dec 1877.
