Mr. William Gip Smith Dies;
Funeral Held Saturday

   Mr. William Gip Smith, age 72, died at his home in Comer.  Friday night
at 7:10 o'clock, following an illness of about two weeks.
   Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at three o'clock from
Comer Presbyterian Chruch by Rev. Ralph Parvin, Presbyterian Pastor, and
interment was in Comer Cemtery with Masonic honors.
   Surviving Mr. smith are his wife, Mrs. Maude Lou Threlkeld Smith; one
step-daughter, Mrs. J.A. Kidd, of Comer; one sister, Mrs. Cora Rhodes, Athens,
Ga., two brothers; Mr. Ira Smith, Athens, Ga., and Mr. Dewitte Smith,
Kannapolis, N.C.
   Mr. Smith, a lifelong resident of Madison County, was the son of  the late
William Smith and Mrs. Missy Wood Smith.  He was a member of the
Presbyterian Church and of the Masonic Order. Many relatives and friends
overflowed the Presbyterian Church attesting their love and esteem.
