Scarborough was born Jan. 15th, 1879, and died March 6th, 1899 -- instantly, by the explosion of an engine. David was a good boy. He had never attached himself to any church, yet he conducted himself as a church member and often expressed himself as a Christian. He had said that when his Creator called him, he was ready to go, and hoped death would come ad take him without pain. He was taken away very suddenly -- not one second warning did he have -- yet his trust was in his Saviour, that at the end of life he might have a crown and live with Jesus above. David was kind to all and walked a path of peace. Though not a member of any church, our friend gave evidence of a hope that his name was written in the Lamb's Book of Life. Now, am I a soldier of the Cross? If so, I will follow Jesus. My many Christian friends, when we do not walk before our God as we ought, we sometimes stand in the way of sinners and the church by our ungodly walk and conversation. O, my God, may they all see the harm that is being done. Strip your minds and consciences of all unchristian prejudices and humbly bow to the will of God, and let "Him who doeth all things well" fill your whole house full of love, and then you will sing His praise daily and be ready to meet him when He comes again. We sympathize with the bereaved family, but their loss, we hope, is his eternal gain. We hope he is at rest and peace with God, and that his soul is around the white Throne of god, continually singing praises to Him, while endless ages roll on. Let us all take warning, for we know not the hour when we may be called to answer for the deeds done here. Jesus Christ says: "My grace is sufficient for you, " and "He that overcometh I will give-eternal life." Now He gives you and I the Comforter, which enables us to stand every temptation, that is put upon us. Let us all look to Jesus, and He will carry us through. James W. McGee, Sorrells.
