R. C. SCARBOROUGH Mrs. R. C. Scarborough died at her home in Comer last Friday afternoon after several weeks illness. Funeral services were conducted from the Comer Baptist Church at four o'clock last Sunday afternoon by Rev. Charles F. Tidwell, Pastor. Interment was in Comer Cemetery with the following pallbearers: P. C. Scarborough, Joe Hendricks, Henry Snellings, Jim Cooper, Isham Thomas and Pinkney Martin. Mrs. Scarborough is survived by her husband, R. C. Scarborough; one sister, Mrs. H. W. Spence of New Britain Connecticut; one brother, H. W. Gilbert of Comer; two nieces: Mrs. Newman Provost and Mrs. Charles Johnson of New Britain Conn., and two newphews: Erwin Spencer and Earl Lester, New Britain. Mrs. Scarborough was a native of Connecticut but had resided in Comer for the past eighteen years. She was loved and admired by her many friends for her gentleness and kindness of spirit. She was interested in both civic and church groups and her death comes as a deep regret by her friends and neighbors. Transcriber's note: Mrs. Scarborough's obituary was published in Dec. 1945, but her tombstone lists her DOD as 1946. The tombstone is a triple headstone (see Comer City Cemetery photos.) which appears to be a replacement stone, so it is possible that the date on the stone was an error.
