Born July 8, 1923, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Sarah Sims Freeman. She was a talented seamstress, a wonderful cook, and a gardener known throughout the community as the “Rose Lady”, according to family members. She shared her beautiful roses with many over the years. She was loved by her family, children, grandchildren, and great- granddaughter and was anticipating the birth of her first great-grandson. She was blessed with knowledge, wisdom, love, compassion and understanding. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Segers was an active member of Danielsville United Methodist Church, a devoted member of the United Methodist Women for more than 50 years, and was awarded for many years of work with the American Cancer Society. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sadie Lanier and two brothers, Roy Freeman and Paul Freeman. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Richard Osgood, Poquoson, Va., and MaryLynn and Mark Phillips, Hull; son, Donald F. Segers, Danielsville; brother, Charles Freeman, Nicholson; sister, Lucy Korten, Edwards, Wash.; three grandsons, Chris Osgood, Poquoson, Va., Daniel Osgood, Hampton, Va., and Ryan Phillips, Danielsville; granddaughter and finance, Candi Phillips and Luis Macias, Duluth; and great-granddaughter, Ashley Osgood, Poquoson, Va. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 14, at Danielsville United Methodist Church with the Revs. Mike McLemore and Calvin Ward officiating. Burial was in the Danielsville Memorial Gardens.
