Stephens To attempt a verbal delineation of a character such as Mrs. Stephens' was seems almost like a sacrilege. Her life and infuence were and are uncircumscribed. Mrs. Elizabeth H. Stephens was born and reared in Madison County at Fort Lamar on September 1st, 1852. After serving her day and generation after the Will of God, passed to her glorious reward at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clarence Adams on Oct. 19, 1936. Mrs. Stephens had been in declining health for some months, but her condition did not become alarming until a few weeks before her death. The summons gound this faithful Christian Character with burmished armor, ready and anxious to go. She was laid to rest by her husband in the Danielsville cemetery. Comint from sturdy pioneer stock, who feared God and loved mankind it is significant that these principles were her rich heritage, and in no small degree did she put them into practice. Her willing and capable hands always hunted and found the hard and the humble tasks. Her kindly ministrations to the sick ad sorrowing will be missed. To the virtues of wife and mother which shone so brightly in the home she was just as devoted to the church, waiting v______ously in the triumph of a living faith. In her young ladyhood she was united in marriage to Mr. Willis H. Stephens. With her keen intellect, poised judgment and cheerful disposition, she added strength and beauty to his every endeavor. To their union seven children were born. Two of these and her husband preceded her to the grave a number of years. Her devotion to her family was mingled with wisdom and firmness. Bestowing a rich affection herself, she kindled an answering flame. In her passing both friends and family find that they are bereft indeed. Although not educated in the sense in which the term is used today, she nevertheless possessed far more educational advantages than most children before and after the Civil war. Her training was comprehensive and thorough, and upon this she built a grand superstructure by her own dilligrest efforts. She never lost interest in life and the march of progress from year to year. One of her chief pleasures in her last years was reading. Sewing too, was a passion with her. She was gifted beyond most with a needle and everything she did was beautifully finished. Countless home in this County bear evidence of her skill in domestic art. Not like so many who have reached their three score years and ten, Mrs. Stephens retained her hearing and her sight to the last. Thus does God reward even in this life one who acts wisely, does justly and walks humbly with Him. Mrs. Stephens was a member of the Methodist Church at Danielsville having transferred her membership here when she moved from Fort Lamar 23 years ago. She was a charter member of the Danielsville Woman's Missionary Society. The cause of the ministry has been made possible by her liberal gifts of both time and money. Her life is being perpetrated through not only a brilliant preacher son, Rev. Jim Stephens of Dallas, but one other son and splendid daughters who continue to hold aloft the old rugged cross. We are gratified that a character so exalted and so staunch should have dwelt among us, and Whereas, her Heavenly Father saw her needs and ministerd to them by _______ her to be with Himself. Therefore, Be it resolved: First, that in the passing of our loved one, our Church and MIssionary Society have sustained ___ ___ ___ ___ Second, That we extend to her family our sincere sympathies in their bereavement. Third, that a copy of these resolutions be sent each member of her family. Fourth, that a copy be sent to the Monitor for publication and a copy be inscribed in our minutes.
