C. Stevens Held February 17th Funeral services were held on February 17th for Mr. W. C. Stevens, prominent citizen of Oglethorpe County, who passed away on Feb. 16th. He was eighty two years old and had lived in the home where he died for seventy seven years. Mr. Stevens was the father of Mr. Thad Stevens, who started to make the race for sheriff, but owing to the eleven week illness of his father, he thought wise to withdraw from the race. Mr. Stevens was well known, a leader in church and community affairs, and his death removes one who had done much towards up-building his section. His wife died fifteen years ago. Interment was in the family burial ground. Mr. Stevens was the father of six children: one son died at the age of 21; he following children survive: Miss Minnie Stevens, of Lexington, Ga.; Mr. Thad J. Stevens, of Carlton, Ga.; Mr. O. A. Stevens, of California; Mr. R. T. Stevens, of Lexington Ga.; and Mr. E. W. Stevens of Carlton.
