J.R.P. Thompson, Dead Hon. J. R. P. Thompson, of Colbert, died Monday morning at nine o'clock after a few days illness at his home. Mr. Thompson was one of Madison County's best known and beloved citizens. He represented Madison County in the general assembly for two terms, had been tax collector for Madison county for two terms, and was for a number of years a member of the board of Tax Equalizers for this county. He had also served his town as a member of the council and a trustee of the local High School at Colbert; was a Mason and active member of the Baptist Church, and was a deacon in same. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Inez Hardman, of Colbert, and one son, Harvin Thompson of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren and one great grand child, and a number of other relatives and friends to mourn his death. He was 78 years of age. He married Mrs. Mirah Faulkner Johnson, who died six years ago. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, September 22nd, at 2:30 at Colbert Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. J. B. Brown and Rev. W. M. Coile.
