He was born on November 19, 1927, and was the son of the late Ralph and Lessie Bone Watson. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where he was a Training Union Director and a Sunday School Teacher. He was a member of the American Legion. Mr. Watson was a veteran, having served in the United States Army and the Air Force and fought in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. After finishing 10 years of service, he went on to become the owner and operator of Watson Auto Paint and Body Shop and a truck driver with the American Vans. Mr. Watson was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Lee Watson. Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Bertie May Davidson Watson; sons and daughters-in-law, Edwin Watson, Stanley and April Watson, all of Danielsville, Robert and Becki Watson, Poplar Bluff, Mo., Mark and Roseann Watson, Toccoa; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Thurmond, Jarrard, Siloam, and Elaine and Gary Seymour, Comer; brothers, Ray Watson, W.A. Watson, and LaVerne Watson, all of Danielsville; sisters, Frances Ware, Hull, and Barbara Dove, Danielsville; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 21, at Friendship Baptist Church with the Revs. Dayton Logan and John Griffeth and Dr. Larry Elliott officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Jamie Jarrard, Mathew Jarrard, Marty Seymour, Clint Watson, Grant Watson and Adam Watson. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Hospice, Athens.
