Whitehead, aged 62, prominent citizen of Comer died at his home Friday morning following an illness of several weeks though he had been confined to his bed only a few days. Funeral services were held from Comer Baptist Church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. B. Brown, of Clayton his former pastor, Rev. W. T. Calloway of the Baptist Church and Rev. Y. A. Bailey, of the Methodist Church. Interment was in Comer cemetery, with Bernstein Bros. in charge of arrangements. As unusually large concourse of relatives and friends were present to pay their last tribute of admiration, love and respect to Mr. Whitehead. Rev. Brown paid a glowing tribute, choosing as his text the passage from Proverbs: "A Friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity." Not once in his ten years ministry in Comer, Mr. Brown said, had he cause to doubt Mr. Whitehead's friendship, and he cited his example as worthy of emulation. The passing of Mr. Whitehead removes from Comer one of its best known figures. He was a member of the Baptist Church, a Mason and Shriner, and prominent in all business and social activities of the town. His death is deeply deplored by his hosts of friends throughout this section. Many handsome floral offerings were placed about the casket and grave Sunday at the funeral. The pallbearers were: Messers. Ed Wier, A.M. Wilkins, Reuben Martin; Joe Whitehead, Frank Martin; C. L. Adair, Willis Birchmore and Dr. Clodfelter. Surviving Mr. Whitehead are: the widow, Mrs. Minnie Meadow Whitehead; one son, Mr. Hiram Whitehead; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Martin of Carlton and Mrs. Carl Stevens of Atlanta; and one brother, Hon. W. E. Whitehead of Carlton. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/madison/obits/w/whitehea7582gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
