LINNIE E. WHITWORTH On Oct. 21st, 1925, occurred the death of Mrs. Linnie E. Whitworth, wife of George T. Whitworth of near Colbert, Ga. Mrs. Whitworth was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Thompson and was married in February 1906, being 65 years old at her death. She had been sick for some months from the effects of paralysis but was very much improved, and had been able to attend Oconee Primitive Baptist Association which convened in Monroe, Ga. just a few days prior to her death. She was a member of Moriah church, and was one of its most loyal and wholly unexpected from an attact of acute indigestion, and was a great shock to her companion, her family and friends. She was laid in the family cemetery on Thursday the 23rd. Gently, tenderly and sorrowfully was she laid to rest; being carried there by the loving hands of two of her own brothers and four of her step sons. Those who knew her best loved her most, and to know her was to love her. The many beautiful floral offerings bespoke the hearts of so many contributors, which if it could be termed so, mad the occasion beautiful. Many were the words of praise and comfort spoken by her pastor, Elder J. Frank Chandler, using as a text "She has done what she could, she has fought a good fight, she has kept the faith." To his remarks were added many other kind words by Elder J.M. Adams, Moderator of the Oconee Association, and a relative. And while all this was said, I feel like some things might rightfully be added, hence this writing. It could not be said that she was a mother, in fact, but that she was in deed and service Some twenty years ago she assumed the motherhood of several motherless children, made so by the church of her own dear mother. In a way it made our hearts and to see another take the place of her who had been so loving and patient during the years of our childhood, and for whose memory now adds to our present sorrow and ________ flow of tears but we can not now say that we have ever been sorry that she came into our father's life and home, and deeply grieve now with him that she is gone. We all ___ that we have been wonderfully blessed by her companionship and association on account of her every dday life and Christian example. Our hearts are still aching on account of the loss of her as companion to our dear father and as mother and grandmother to the family: and, yet, if we believe in and have hope in Christ, we can but feel resigned to His will. And by living a life of connections to Him, feel assured of meeting our liven ones who have gone on before. Oft in visions by faith we can see over there, In that country so ____ and so pure, Where the children of God shall unite by and by, In that home far beyond the blues sky. ---G.P.W.
