He was living at the home of Mr. Warren Dobbs and told them when he left that he might visit some relative in Franklin County before he returned. While on the river a considerable rain and wind came up with lightning and also some hail taken refuge during the storm under a pine tree about fifty yards from the river, and the supposition is that he was standing against the tree when lightning struck and killed him. He was not found until Thursday and then accidentally by some negroes who had noticed that the tree was struck and decided to go and look at it. He ahd pitched forward failing partly on his face his neck was broken, hair burned, shoes torn and flesh badly discolored. He was about 45 years old and unmarried. He was buried at Liberty Church on Friday afternoon Rev. A. M. Sprayberry officiating.
