JOSEPH K. SAMMONS In a candlelight service Sunday, October 26, 1947 at 6:30 P. M., Miss Jewel Kitchens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Arthur Kitchens of Athens, Georgia, and Joseph K. Sammons, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Sammons of Hamlet, N. C., were married in the Comer Baptist Church with Rev. C. F. Tidwell officiating. The alter was decorated with palms, ferns, baskets of beautiful white dahlias, chrysanthemums and swainsona with six candelabra of long white candles. Miss Lucille Sassar, pianist, of Comer, and Michael Toole of Augusta, Ga., soloist, presented the musical program. Musical selections included "Ah Sweet Mystery of Life," "At Dawning," and "I Love You Truly." Mrs. J. Polk Gholston of Comer, Ga., was Matron of Honor. Her dress of Periwinkle Moiré was becoming to the blonde and was fashioned similarly to the bride's dress with draped and sheered neckline, fitted bodice, bustle effect and a small train. Dainty tuck-ups in the front of the skirt featured nylon marquisette, and the head dress was also fashioned from this material. She carried a nosegay of red roses. Bridesmaids were Miss Carolyn Goodson of Atlanta and Miss Catherine Jenkins of Winder, Ga. Their gowns were identical and of the same material as the Matron of Honor, having fitted bodices, tiny peplums and very full skirts. Their headdresses were similar to the Matron of Honor also, and they carried nosegays of pink roses. Flower girl was Little Yvonne Noel of Athens, Ga., whose dress was of pink moiré, with fitted bodice, full skirt and tiny tuck-ups. She wore sweetheart roses in her hair and carried a nosegay of pink roses from which she scattered rose petals before the bride. Mr. J. G. Sammons served as his brother's best man, and ushers-groomsmen included J. A. Sammons, uncle of the groom-elect, Frank Cleveland of Athens, Lewis V. Kitchens or Winder, brother of the bride, Billy Alexander of Athens. The beautiful brunette bride, given marriage by her father, was gowned in a dress of ivory satin, featuring an off-the-shoulder effect with draped and shirred neckline, with dainty slencon lace yoke. The fitted bodice had a bustle effect attained by a three-tiered ripple. The long sleeves were pointed and buttoned. The full skirt was tucked up in front, caught with bows of satin and trimmed in slencon lace, ending in a long train.illusion veil was caught to a coronet of pearls. She wore a floating opal Lavaliere which was given to her by the groom. She carried a prayer book with mother-of-pearl inlay which was sent from Palestine and loaned her by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Herman Kitchens of Atlanta, Georgia. The prayer book was adorned with a large white orchid with sprays of tube roses and satin ribbons. Mrs. Kitchens chose for her daughter's marriage floor length dress of royal blue crepe with Venetian Lace Peplum. She wore a corsage of pink carnations. Mrs. Sammons, mother of the groom, wore a pink crape dress with brilliants outlining the tunic. Her flowers were white carnations. After the ceremony, Mrs. and Mrs. Kitchens entertained with a reception at the Comer Women's club. The bride's going away costume consisted of a moss green velveteen suite, with brown accessories. Her Kolinsky furs were the groom's gift to the bride and she wore a white orchid corsage. After and extended wedding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Sammons will reside in Atlanta, Georgia. Out-of-town guests included Mr. & Mrs. J. A. Sammons and Mr. & Mrs. E. G. Sammons, Hamlet, N.C.; Mrs. and Mrs. J.R. Sammons, Wise, N. C.; Mr. W. K. Strickland, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mr. & Mrs. r. T. Lester, Newport News, Va.; Mr. C. M. Kitchens and Tillman Kitchens, of LaGrange, Georgia; Mr. & Mrs. A. S. Taylor, Mrs. & Mrs. Eugene Breswell, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Kitchens, Mr. and Mrs. R. A.
