Author: Nell Abell Stephens
Curtis Clarence Abell (June 25,1877-March 17,1938, Stewart Co., Ga) was a son 
of Ephriam Alexander Abell  (1851-1920) and Mary Lou Glenn (1861-1941). On 
March 3, 1897, he m. Susan Maggie Josephine Gordon (Sept 20,1879,Marion Co Ga-
Aug 12, 1956, LaGrange, Ga), a daughter of Thomas Alexander Gordon and Laura 
Ophelia Upton Gordon, at the home of the bride by J.P. Walker Abell of 
Brooklyn, Ga. 
Curtis was the brother of James W Abell, Theodocia Abell, Pearl Virginia 
Haire, and unnamed stillborn, Eva Lee Abell, Maude Alexander Laslie, DeWitt 
Talmadge Abell, Ura Bell Abell, Ephriam Alexander Abell,Jr., and Barney Eph 
Abell.
Josephine was the granddaughter of David W Upton and Susan Rebecca Tomlin 
Upton. She was the sister of Annei Gertrude Shierling, Lula Ethel Morgan, 
Bertha Ophelia Gordon Perry Barbaree, John B Gordon, Hattie Estelle Gordon, 
and Thomas Jefferson Gordon, (Tommie, a girl).
Curtis and Josephine raised their family on a farm at Red Gill, near Richland. 
Curtis died of Cancer on March 17, 1938. Their son, Floyd Curtis Abell was 
killed serving our country in Italy on March 2,1944. Josephine was killed in a 
car-train collision in LaGrange,Ga on August 12,1956. They were buried at Red 
Hill Cemetery, Richland, Stewart Co, Ga. Their children were born in Stewart 
Co., GA
