Cobb Reprinted with permission of Rena Cobb Family Histories Pages 490-492 Submitted by Evelyn Dillard Hart Joseph Oliver Wells Joseph Oliver Wells, “Joe”, was born in Muscogee County, Georgia on August 29, 1887. He was the fourth child of William Stephen Wells, B. 15 Jan. 1856, d. 19 July 1921, and Eula Jane McMichael, B. 8 April 1861, d. 29 Oct. 1916, in a family of twelve children. His family moved back to Marion County where he grew up on a farm and attended school. Joe married Dicie Mae Wall on April 30, 1911. Dicie was born March 10, 1893, in Marion County, the daughter of James Torrence Wall, b. 1824, d. ?, and Aletha Jane Fouche, b. 3 July 1857, d. 15 Jan. 1835*. Both of her parents are buried in the Tazewell Cemetery. Joe’s parents are buried in the Buena Vista Cemetery. Joe and Dicie lived in the Tazewell community, where he was a successful farmer and landowner. Joe was a member of the Marion County Board of Education for several years and County Commissioner from 1944-1948. They were devoted and faithful members of the Tazewell Methodist Church, where Joe was a member of the Board of Stewards for over 30 years. Dicie was a full-time mother with eleven children to raise. Joe died August 24, 1952, and Dicie died several years later on July 14, 1965. Both are buried in the Tazewell Cemetery. They had eleven children, two boys and nine girls. These eleven children have given them twenty-nine grandchildren, seventy-six great-grandchildren, and thirty-four great-great grandchildren as of this writing. *Transcriber note: This date is a typographical error.
