Blythe James E. Blythe’s name appeared in the 1868 Marion County Tax Digest as a resident of Redbone District. He had four children and his tax that year was $1.00. The value given on his property, except crops, provisions, etc., was $320.00 and the value of his Real Property was $180.00, so he wasn’t a wealthy man by any means. James E. (Jimmie) Blythe and his wife Ellen (Helms) and children were listed in the Upper Talbot County District in the 1860 U.S. Census of Talbot County. He was listed as being 48 years old and was born in North Carolina and Ellen was listed as being 34 years of age and was also born in N.C. All the children’s birthplaces were given as Georgia. Samuel was 17; William T., 8; Sidney E., 6; Serenus (male), 4; and Simon T. was 3/12 or 3 months old. Believed to be another of their children, James M., 14, was residing with Allen Helms and Anna Helms (66 and 62 years of age) in Marion County in 1860. Samuel L. Blythe, eldest son of Jimmie and Ellen served in Co. A. 27th Regt., Marion County in the Confederate Army. James M. served in Co. B, 2nd Georgia Troops, C.S.A. Samuel began his service in 1864 and surrendered in Greensboro, N.C. 26 Apr. 1865. Some early marriages of Blythes in Marion County include Sarah A. Blythe and John W. Mitchell 23 Feb. 1858; Martha A. Blythe and Samuel Greene 19 Sept. 1855; Marion Blythe and Thomas D. Greene 9 Nov. 1859; Samuel Blythe and Rachel J. Mitchell 18 Oct. 1866; William Blythe and Julia Murphy 10 Jan. 1877 and Sidney E. Blythe and Martha Vianne (Viney) Thomas, dau. of John and Vianne Hammock Thomas on 2 Feb. 1890. Samuel J. Blythe served in World War I and is buried in Ramah Primitive Baptist Cemetery in Buena Vista. Charles Wilson Blythe (relationship unknown) served in WW II. Sidney Elexander Blythe (b. 1854 - d. 1935) and Vianne Thomas Blythe (b. ? d. 1931) were the parents of seven children: Sidney Jackson Blythe m. Julia Greene Richard Reese m. Zelma Hogg Bessie Blythe m. 1st Maud Lane and 2nd Harold Barfield Ellen Blythe (b. and d. 1891) Delia Blythe (b. 1892 – d. ?) m. Bobby Brannon Katie Lois Blythe (b. 15 Sept. 1898 – d. 2 Sept. 1970, m. John Frank Steward (b. 16 Aug. 1896 – d. 31 Jan. 1972), son of W.F. and Lula Tillery Steward of Lee County, Alabama, veteran of WWI (See John Steward Family.) Gennie Blythe (b. 28 Dec. 1903 – d. Jul. 1986) m.
