This was known as the Liberty Hill,S.C.area. Presently there is an old Episcopal Church in the area, but not much else. He received a pension on May 19, 1785 of 3lbs. 17 shillings and 1 1/2 penny sterling for service of 54 days in the S.C. militia in 1780. He is listed in the 1810 and 1820 Lancaster, Co.census. He fought in the battle of Blackstock, Union,S.C.during the American Revolution. He fought under the command of Lt.William McCorkle,who was killed in this battle, and General Sumter "The Fighting Gamecock" was badly wounded in the shoulder. Robert McCorkle was the son of Lt.William McCorkle, he moved the family to Marion County, Ga. in the 1820's., along with two brothers, James McCorkle and William McCorkle. John Benson, (born 1803, son of Andrew Benson of Lancaster,Co.S.C.)moved at the same time to Marion County, Ga. and married Mary Elizabeth McCorkle, the daughter of James McCorkle.
